Request for our beloved Canadian neighbors who will be suffering with us under these pointless and idiotic tariffs:
Could you please set the White House on fire again? You did it once~

My insurance company offered me a free blood meter and supplies along with a free blood pressure checker. Both are fully digital and have..an..app?
Surely, I connect via bluetooth and pull informati--no? Each of these is equipped with a cellular connection? And I don't even have to sign up for an account?
It's linked to my insurance information?
Oh! And I get a free $100 Amazon Gift Card if I use them for a week straight?
And it's all conveniently linked to an app on my phone! This is wonderful!
Except it's fucking not. Just like my CPAP-turned-BiPAP/ASV unit wanted to call home and report on my sleep, these devices want to report to a third fucking party on my health data.
Is it because they're altruistic and want to give me the best care and nicest devices?
Fuck no. Something is paying for the cellular count, something is paying for the Amazon gift card, and these devices. And the only thing that could be is my health data.
They know most everyone gives up privacy and security for convenience, so they wrap it all up in a convenient package that makes whisking your health information away, more likely than not to try and talk your company's (and thus your) insurance rates up.
I got into an argument with a pulmonologist yesterday (my mother's friend, not my doctor, who was cool), when she told me the newer device was "better" because it let clinicians control it remotely, and it had bluetooth for downloading data. She couldn't explain to me how just using an SD Card and a program like OSCAR or SleepHQ was worse.
But she did try to tell me that as a provider of my equipment, the company was ENTITLED to my data. I corrected her. I bought my unit, and no one is entitled to my data. I don't need someone knowing roughly where I am with my machine, and when I'm sleeping.
She asked me why. I explained that I don't want bad actors having my information for any potential nefarious things they could do with it. Her response? "Who would do that? And how could they even do that? I think you're paranoid."
And this is how we get data breaches and a wealth of useful information for adversaries/bad actors. And those bad actors include the providers of the devices.
This information, in unit form, isn't all that useful, but in aggregate can be used to extract more money from you. And that's the end game.
That free Amazon card doesn't pay for itself.

I used to get excited about new technologies.
Now I dread how new developments will be used to monetize my life and subjugate the masses.

Finishing up my survivorship clinic at MD Anderson, then off to noms. Then I get to show my pulmonologist how I improved my sleep by hacking my CPAP and using the data to more accurately set it up, using a mode that provides better therapy.
Long ass day.

Animals in need at your local no-kill shelter or favorite animal charity/sanctuary could use your financial support more than ever while I continue hosting free services that I am fortunate enough to responsibly support financially without resorting to begging for money that would be better used going to people, animals, and indeed many animal-people who are in dire need.
Please boost 🙏

Finally home after mingling with work folks over and overpriced dinner.
At least some good is coming out of it. Going to be advocating for potentially hiring Yet Another Furry with a role that just opened~...

It looks like work has finally approved my remote cloud/appsec cybersecurity role. Will a furry end up with it? Or a nonfur who's just furry friendly? I guess we'll see~

The cellular cable is the one to the left. I realized I left it connected (though it has no service) and I popped it off after taking the shell back off.
@RalvrWuff I've got everything to do it for you if you'd like later. You just need to get your sleep study results for setting it up. ;)

A reminder for Tiggi.es services users.
I'm never going to ask for money for the services I host. I'm not posting costs to run, donations, etc. etc. Because I'm lazy and there's no reason to.
But I do ask, especially as we have this cold snap in the US, that folks donate to no-kill animal shelters and sanctuaries to keep our four-legged friends warm and fed.
It doesn't need to be a large amount, any little bit helps them.
And it gives me warm and fuzzies to know that our users are generous and helping out animals out there in need.

For those interested, Tiggi.es IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is up and running with services, fully encrypted, hosted locally (Not on AWS or the corporate cloud), not run or sponsored by any big company, with zero server-side logging and data collection.
Address is irc.tiggi.es port 6697 or 9999 - You need an IRC Client to connect.

I have gone down the rabbit hole of Resmed airsense / aircurve 10 hacking...and found that all of the models are the same, and it's only the firmware that makes them different. The airsense models have sensors that aren't fully used with the lower end firmware but are in the aircurve ones.
https://www.cpapman.com/manuals/Travel-Compliance-Letter_amer_eng.pdf
If you're interested, you may or may not be able to cross-reference what model you want to flash to with the above PDF...with the ROMs that can turn your CPAP into an advanced bi-level or even COVID-assisting ventilator...here https://drive.google.com/file/d/1fFEThG_DEakaaTcObgKXwwoApSy2G3RU/view
So there may or may not be info https://airbreak.dev/ here on how to change the firmware using a JTAG programmer.
I'm going to flash mine to the 37043-SX567 ASV. :)

Picked up my CPAP. Evidently, even though I own it, I’m supposed to let it phone home and report on my usage and only they can adjust the settings.
I’ve ordered a jtag programmer and some jumpers and I’m going to root it and remove the cellular phone home bullshit.
The rooted firmware also enables more features that only higher end models are usually given.
Fuck this whole “You own it but we control it, so you don’t REALLY own it” bullshit.
