Last week, I built a tiny #Linux system from scratch! 🐧🔧
It consists of the bare minimum required to boot into a shell on real hardware. I learned a ton about what terms like bzImage, initrd and UEFI mean!
Let me show you how I did it, step by step:

Good day to delete my Twitter accounts. All 32 of them. /o\
Among the highlights: @37c3, which I registered back when the Chaos Communication Congress was still using accounts in that format per event (around #27c3, I think).
And @fixmyavatar, a bot that scaled down your old square avatar a bit, so it would fit into a circular cutout…

@phlash and @joshix added examples for how to use ycwd on sway and XFCE (on X.Org)! Thanks! 🎉
Any users of #hyperland who would like to try it and share their config? Also open to more obscure window managers :D

When I open a new terminal, I really like it if it automatically has the same working directory as the currently focused one.
On Xorg, I used a little tool called xcwd
to tell me what that working directory is, but it doesn't work on #Wayland.
So I wrote my own one! ✨ I called it ycwd
, and it sparks a lot of joy for me! :)

I will give a talk at #FOSDEM this year, about @ethersync, our tool that lets you collaborate on local text files in real time, using editors like Neovim and VS Code!
https://fosdem.org/2025/schedule/event/fosdem-2025-4890-ethersync-real-time-collaboration-in-your-text-editor-/
Will anyone of you be at FOSDEM? :)
The talk will also be live-streamed.

Found something neat this week: "niri" is a window manager for #Wayland, that follows a new (to me) paradigm: It's scrollable-tiling! New windows are appended to the right – the other windows don't resize!
It's written in Rust; features subtle animations; supports touch gestures; and auto-reloads its configuration.
Having used i3 for around 15 years, it feels like a welcome breeze of fresh air! Thanks for making it, @YaLTeR!

Walked 40 km today, following the Elbe downriver. Almost marathon distance, and something you could see from space! :P
It took me a bit over 7 hours. Had a good time – it was cold & sunny! Now my legs hurt, and feel very stiff. Looking forward to my couch! :D

Do you have talk recommendations from #38c3? :) And what did you like about them?

To get a slightly different perspective on this issue, how hard is it for you to differentiate the pink and grey letters? #jj #38c3

I also wanted to get some input from y'all on a possible UI issue I encountered.
jj git clone git@github.com:ethersync/ethersync
jj log -r ::
Now my question is: With your terminal's color scheme, how easy is it for you to differentiate the pink from the gray letters in the change IDs at the beginning of each line?
And do you have a color vision deficiency?

By the way, #jj prevents you accidentally editing changes you've already published. Pushed changes are marked as immutable. But before you publish them, cleaning up your local changes needs less brain cycles for me compared to Git.
Oh! There's also jj undo
, allowing you to try new things fearlessly.
Today at #38c3, I accidentally stumbled over a jujutsu table with @timj and others, which was my reminder to tell y'all about this tool! :) I think you might like it!

Here's some things that feel nice about #jj:

I've been trying the jujutsu (#jj) version control system over the past few weeks, and I think I really like it! It's Git-compatible, which means that you can use it right now with existing project, and to collaborate with others!
Using it feels similar to when I used git-svn to collaborate with people who insisted on using SVN back in university…
