@twilliability Also thanks for making RSS parrot! I had two questions:

Is there a way to add multiple RSS feeds at a time? Importing RSS feeds one by one will be a hassle

Can the profile picture match the account? Currently all of birb’s accounts have the RSS feed icon, which is hard to tell them apart

[#]FediTip

YouTube has RSS feeds, and with a a feed reader like @birb, you can follow them via your Mastodon account

Eg.

@youtube.com.user.ethoslab

You might also want to put this on a separate list: https://fedi.tips/how-to-use-the-lists-feature-on-mastodon/

The benefit here is twofold:

Unfortunately, it seems like there is only one person interested so I’ll go ahead and cancel it. Was worth a shot!

We can meetup at Barebottle Beer Garden at Salesforce Park. It’s also close to the Embarcadero Station in SF. Would people like to meet here at 1 PM on Jan 20th (MLK day)?

Please only star/like this if you intend to come (I won’t track boosts so feel free to go ham lol)

Other places/times/topics are welcome

Would anyone be interested in meeting up in SF/Bay Area about #MobileLinux? I’m trying to gauge if there is interest like the person doing the meetups in New Zealand

I’m not entirely sure what we would do, so suggestions are welcome. I was maybe thinking to hangout near a BART station for accessibility purposes

is there even a point to async in #python? if the thread is waiting on io, wouldn’t the os automatically make that thread sleep until the resource is available? wouldn’t it be easier to just aim for multithreading for simplicity?

Attended @liw’s Rust lecture and I think it is good starter for those new to the language. I’m somewhat familiar with Rust, but ended up learning neat bits and bobs. Thanks again for doing this Lars!

A little frustrated by old/broken communication methods that are used (Email, IRC, Matrix). I just want an easy and simple way to send new/revised patches, receive help, talk to others, and search for questions people might have previously asked. Preferably all in one location (maybe with bridges to community modded applications to include people not wanting to leave a certain app?)

In order to remove the “unsafe” keyword from Rust, I wonder if the key is to let programs know they have a limited amount of memory rather than an unlimited one

If so, crt0.S (?) would essentially become a memory manager of sorts. All it would do is allocate memory when the program asks for it and deallocate when something goes out of scope or the program exits

And speaking of memory management, did a deep dive into how new and delete works in cpp (start from operator new vs placement new)

Holy smokes, #Biden probably deliberately acted as a lightning rod until Trump chose his VP to drop out. That's another level of 4D chess

For mobile Linux, is it possible to bypass carrier restrictions by doing the following?

  1. Change phone’s IMEI (PPP allows you to easily do this) to a phone that you have that’s approved by the vendor

  1. Mask traffic via a VPN so your carrier doesn’t see that it’s not sending atypical traffic

Has anyone tried this? How did it go?

All the OpenGL and Vulkan work on Asahi Linux makes me wonder how the code works. Like developer documentation and maybe a high level overview would be nice

I’ve sent close to 1,500 applications so far, and less than 1% are getting to the interview stage and that’s about it. Compared to the 100 or so applications I did to get my first job, this number is appalling.

I’ve wasted so much of my time just applying only to get no where. I would’ve loved to spend this time working on my personal projects.

Frustrating.

Hey @cas, would you have any guidance on adding a new SoC support to u-boot? I looked at your slides (waiting for the FOSDEM video to be posted) but the last slide was a bit vague. I want to add support for MSM8960, which is armv7a. Thanks!
