YouTube has RSS feeds, and with a a feed reader like @birb, you can follow them via your Mastodon account

Eg.

@youtube.com.user.ethoslab

The benefit here is twofold:

• RSS parrot acts like a proxy, meaning you don’t get tracked by YouTube (but have to trust birb or other RSS feed readers)

• No login!

@twilliability Also thanks for making RSS parrot! I had two questions:

Is there a way to add multiple RSS feeds at a time? Importing RSS feeds one by one will be a hassle

Can the profile picture match the account? Currently all of birb’s accounts have the RSS feed icon, which is hard to tell them apart

@Logical_Error Thanks for the shoutout! I'm afraid the answer is no to both atm :(

Both boil down to keeping the service very lean and simple. With custom images it would add the need to store and serve media.

An extra angle is that I'm concerned images would make parrot accounts look like they're impersonating/"stealing" the original, and they'd create the risk of bringing inadequate content into ppl's timelines.
