Netflix famously paid a million dollars for a recommendation algorithm for DVDs shortly before they went all in on streaming. Let's see how the Netflix home page, with over half a decade of history on my wants, desires, likes, and actions, is doing today:

❌ Game I've played to death

Top picks: ❌❌seen it, seen it ❌❌maybe❌yes if it was a movie, seen it, seen it, maybe

My list: ✔️seen it ✔️seen it✔️✔️

Argh!!!

You could argue that “Netflix made good recommendations because you already watched half of these”.

Incorrect. That assumes I want to watch them again, which I don’t.

Unless I accidentally watch it and 5 minutes in I realise and yell, “Jason Statham is a tough thug with a heart of gold … AGAIN???” and then stop it.

It’s comedic how bad it is. I finished a series. Done. First recommendation under “Great TV Shows”: that show!

Also don’t forget the other half of the recommendations were bad.
