Are artists pulling their old webcomics offline because of generative AI? Or have people just been stressed out for the last several years and stopped renewing domain names / web hosting plans?
I just wanted to refer to scenes from Strong Female Protagonist and Dr. McNinja, and both of their websites are gone.

[#]Mugshot from yesterday. I was drinking "Psycho Kitty" from neighborhood tea shop Craft Tea, which gets the interesting blue color from butterfly pea flowers.
https://www.craftteaguy.com/craft-tea-shop/psycho-kitty
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butterfly_pea_flower_tea
It's a Sweese mug, which isn't very exciting, but I appreciate the bold colors. More importantly, it comes with a built-in strainer to filter my loose leaf tea, and a lid to keep it warm.

To poke fascists in the eye, the show doubles down on DEI. After all, one flaw with many scientific experiments is the problem of WEIRD experimental subjects not being representative of humanity:
Western
Educated
Industrialized
Rich
Democratic
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WEIRD
The show goes to great pains to avoid such biases, not only in subjects, but also in experimenters.
And of course involving children in the production can result in importantly different perspectives and questions too.

Before the experiment, they interview an expert to ask:
Common experimental errors have muppet avatars, and if the expert mentions them, they come on screen and sing a song.

Idea: a children's science show called "Replication Crisis", replicating experiments from across every branch of science. The show always begins with a theme song about why replicating scientific experiments is important, why it rarely happens due to capitalism etc., and how we can help.
In each episode, they choose an experiment that has never been formally replicated. They run the experiment, on camera as much as possible, then publish their results as open data for all.

A song sparrow regularly visits our bird feeder and sits entranced, by itself, meditating on the birdseed as it contemplatively cracks the shells with its beak. We've named it Thinky, for its habit of seeking solitude and spacing out.
I wonder if I would recognize Thinky if it returned to my yard with a family in tow. Would its partner and offspring be as peaceful and prone to daydreaming? Or would it still stand out as a space cadet?

I'm trying to boycott the entire fucking Trump economy. I know that I cannot fully succeed. But I'm going to avoid money as much as possible, until fascists no longer control our government.
I'm going to focus on finishing my existing projects, and avoid buying more until I've assembled what I have.
I'm going to give away things I don't need, and scrounge things I need outside of capitalism.

Welp, I deleted my Whatsapp account, I deleted some Facebook pages, but I'm stuck at trying to delete some of the Instagram accounts I've made for various projects because I can't seem to log in to them. They send me a code through my email, I enter it in, Instagram seems to accept it, but then the page just hangs forever. Adblocker is disabled.
I guess if I can't log in to an account then maybe it doesn't matter that it exists? But it's the principle of the thing.

I guess what I really wanted out of this poll was an estimate of how long I have until publicly opposing the Trump administration becomes too dangerous and I have to shut up, leave the country, or accept prison / death. But I didn't state that beforehand, so interpret the poll however you like.

For #FollowFriday, here are folks new to fedi, arriving on #Pixelfed, taking photos in #Philly. Please welcome them!
I don't know them or how good their pics will be, but I do want them to feel at home in our virtual neighborhood. Let's help everyone leave Meta/Instagram.
Also please be patient because Pixelfed.social is struggling under load.

Check out this #folk song, "Bugs" by Jesse Welles:
https://www.tiktok.com/@jessewelles/video/7439378448948186398
It's upbeat and catchy, and captures my enthusiasm for #bugs.
It's also on #TikTok, which may or may not be accessible in a couple days, so download it.
Interestingly, he has a different version on #YouTube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cbrmyg1UTg
I like the TikTok performance better, but I like some aspects of the Youtube version too.
If the medium is the message, what different messages are conveyed by these different versions?

Ugh I should have shoveled snow earlier, I guess waiting for it to stop snowing was just an excuse for procrastinating. Now it's even colder and darker. But peaceful.

Jawns, if you contribute to our Open Collective, there's a chance that you received a credit card statement with "Witty Gritty" as the merchant name, rather than Amplify Philly. Sorry if this confused you! It still went to the right place.
No action is needed on your part, should be fixed now.
Our blog post repeating what I just said:

OK #NewJersey folks, can anyone tell me if the New Jersey Hills Media Group is any good? The local paper for my parents would be the NewsBee:
https://www.newjerseyhills.com/morris_news_bee/
I understand that in 2022 they switched to a non-profit model like the Inquirer, which seems like a promising development:
https://newsweneed.org
But they paywall most of their articles online, so I can't judge them. Some hints suggest a Republican lean to me, but some Dems are indistinguishable from fascists.

What's the best software for editing #GemText? I have a #Gemini capsule I'm playing with that's generated by Sutter:
https://codeberg.org/grunfink/sutter
It's a managed hosting environment where it's not pleasant to edit the text directly on the server, so I guess I'll write gemtext on my desktop and sync it with the server. I might as well have the prettiest editing environment possible.
I recognize that gemtext is simple so I don't need an IDE, I just want good ergonomics.

I have to say that I've never read a battle cry in a fantasy or sci-fi novel that I could take seriously. I'd be embarrassed to scream them for fun, let alone as my potential last words.
Did real world warriors sound dorky as hell in battle? Are there any historical battle cries that had teeth, or do they sound as weak as their fictional counterparts? Is it a case of "you had to be there"?

20 years from now you still live in the same place, but post-apocalypse.
You can't believe it's come to this, but you're standing in a battle line with your neighbors to repel raiders. The raiders are milling about, they didn't expect this much resistance, and you see no reason to let them get organized... so as a respected elder, you heft your weapon forged from car parts and lead the charge!
What's your battle cry? What do you scream as you rush to die for your community?
