OK #NewJersey folks, can anyone tell me if the New Jersey Hills Media Group is any good? The local paper for my parents would be the NewsBee:

https://www.newjerseyhills.com/morris_news_bee/

I understand that in 2022 they switched to a non-profit model like the Inquirer, which seems like a promising development:

https://newsweneed.org

But they paywall most of their articles online, so I can't judge them. Some hints suggest a Republican lean to me, but some Dems are indistinguishable from fascists.

@migratory @skyfaller i don’t know anything about that paper, but it’s cool that they aren’t owned by private equity. morris county is a republican-leaning county so i wouldn’t be surprised if the paper leaned that way!

@jenn @migratory Can you recommend any progressive news sources for Morris County, or North Jersey?

I'm trying to get my parents to unsubscribe from the NY Times, and I thought reading local news might help them get more involved in their community.

They also prefer print publications, which is an additional challenge.

@skyfaller that is a challenge around here (and I presume many other places.). I dropped the Times this summer after decades. I subscribe to Nj.com which is NJ Advance Media I think - it is basically The Star-Ledger, a state-wide newspaper run out of Newark. But they are stopping print editions and only digital going forward. They are also not really “progressive,” but none are really around here.
