Morning nerds. My job for this week is to update our EV comparison spreadsheet and go find somewhere that'll let us do some test drives.

I unironically love cloning a new repository at work and discovering it has a Makefile in it.

The large evangelical church on the fringe of town has applied for an extension to their permitted operating hours, as well as formalising what they're allowed to do with the bit of parkland on their property. Currently they're not allowed to do, like, pastoral type activities and they'd like to change that. They also want to be able to use PAs, which due to the layout of the site would probably involve broadcasting amplified audio up the hill in to adjoining ultra-low-density residential neighbourhoods.

The neighbours are going full NIMBY on this, and I can to some extent see where they're coming from because who wants to be preached out over a loudspeaker at 9pm on a weeknight. But the funny part of that is that several opponents are arguing that extended operating hours for the church facilities would ruin the "peace", "tranquillity" and "serenity" of the neighbourhood.

Anyway, I can't wait to watch the council meeting live stream because I already know exactly who's going to be there crying about woke heathens.

That diagram is looking in to the socket. Or looking down on to the plug.

I cut up an old four pin telephone extension cable that's been in my box of random wires unused for a decade, and the yellow and red pins are power.

I'm moderately confident this "HAND CONTROL" pinout is looking at the end of the plug, and not the socket at all. But pulling out the multimeter to check voltages costs nothing. Getting it wrong, not so much.

This afternoon I found myself wondering about combination slide rule / measuring devices. And found these absolutely gorgeous rolling rulers that double as slide rules. https://titaner.com/collections/rulers-1

The person who listed the tap wrote me an email to inform me that they could not find it in the shed, and that their husband has probably installed it at their property in Molong.

Fucken Molong.

Today I am smoothly pivoting from reading people's log files for them to reading the docs for the platform they're trying to use. For them.

I've wanted one for a while, so when I spotted an old bench vice out for council clean up I happily lugged the heavy bastard home.

Turning it winds the screw out but the front jaw is completely detached. As long as it's not jammed up with rust or something that should be an easy fix though.

Now all I need is a bench to put it on.

This strikingly blue bathroom sink was one of the things we kept from the house we demolished to build our home. It's been sitting around for a couple of years, but I'm finally getting a start on making it in to a bird bath fountain thing. #DIWhy
