Reorganizing my music library has gone extremely well, but after sorting through over 1,500 songs, I'm down to the last 150 or so that are just random singles and whatnot and it's become tedious. Better stop for the day and do something else before I just delete them all to be done with it 😆

Are there any reliable Canadian news sources out there? It's really about time that I get on this since I still have power to vote in federal elections Even if I haven't lived in the country for nearly 10 years. I'm aware of loads of smaller publications that are US-based, but none that are Canadian.

Edit: Should add just in case that I'm not particularly interested in reading news by and for Nazis. Just to be clear for anyone who thinks that's something I want to waste my life force doing.

Edit 2: It has been brought to my attention that I need to explicitly state that I don't need to be recommended the CBC. Probably safe to assume if it's an internationally recognized source, I'm likely already familiar with it. I'm looking for indie level stuff.

I managed to pull myself away from organizing my whole entire music library long enough to write my monthly #ReadingLog! I had to add a new category this month, so hopefully the layout is still simple enough to read.

Is there any media player out there that will actually let me view my music library in a way that's even remotely user-friendly or am I going to have to download iTunes again just to properly access my music? 😭

The first of what I hope are many lovely books that I'll read in Japanese this year. This one is a short stort collection by You Ashizawa. It's an SF collection, but it's my understanding that the author largely writes mysteries or mystery adjacent work.

I'll admit I was drawn to this book because of the compelling title and the, ahem, interesting choice of cover design. This is the first of anything I've read from the author, so it's all I really have to go on. And I was not disappointed.

This collection was filled with such a variety of different stories taking place of different periods of time, both in our world and ones that are parallel to ours. I could feel the origins of the author in mystery writing and it made all of the stories a lot of fun. Really hope to see more SF works in the future!

Very fun of my brain to have me dream about crashing elevators when I work in a building that I can only access the floor I work on by elevator ✌️

I spent the whole day at work doing a thing I didn't need to be doing because I misunderstood instructions. Luckily, I don't have any other task waiting for me right now anyway, but now I'm needlessly sleepy and feel a bit like a goof 😭

It's that time of year where I intensely regret that I didn't do any of my accounting in advance. Please excuse me while I weep and do a year's worth of accounting in one day.

At least this year I don't have to input anything and just have to send it to an accountant. But I'm sure after I send it she'll come back to me and tell me that I screwed something up somehow lol

It's been a great month for short fiction for me! Finally decided to subscribe to Clarkesworld and I'm on my second issue from Uncanny for backing their Kickstarter. You don't need to subscribe to either magazine to read their stories, but subscribing is a great way to support the continuation of these online magazines (whether the ones I've mentioned or others).

I'll write more in my monthly summary for January (maybe) and I'm not done reading my issue of Uncanny yet, but here are some personal favourites so far:

Six People to Revise You by J.R. Dawson

Never Eaten Vegetables by H.H. Pak

If I just want my #Instagram pictures for myself, is the HTML option the right one? I actually look at those pictures pretty frequently and would like to keep them.

I just saw a post about how Microsoft Office 2016 and Office 2019 will no longer be supported soon. I am still using Microsoft Office 2010 LOL

Home from work today because I have an appointment with my rheumatologist this afternoon and I ended up getting a super cool delivery (that I probably wouldn't have got until the weekend otherwise).

Awhile ago @ettaB_1 wrote a post about handcrafted hot water bottles from Gifu, but I didn't have the money and they went out of stock. Well, I got a notification on Saturday that more were ready and bought one and a lovely linen cover.

This thing is so cool! Everything but the rubber seal is handcrafted and apparently it'll hold heat for up to 24 hours. I'm so excited to try it out.

I love supporting craftspeople making awesome stuff like this. I'll also share the link for any Japan-based people who may want to order one!

I finally finished a game that I bought! It doesn't matter that I bought this game like 3 years ago and it didn't even take 10 hours to finish because I finally finished it! It seems that recording my video game collection on Backloggery and writing small updates every time I play has in fact been very motivating and made the experience more fun.

Carto was such a lovely and thoughtfully put together little puzzle game with really interesting mechanics. I really like that the puzzles are centered around manipulating map pieces, which are central to how the story progresses. There were a few moments where I craved a bit more, but overall it was super fun and the illustrations are absolutely adorable and I love the style. I was also very happy to see localization teams and play testers credited properly at the end of the game.

Overall a really great experience. It would really be great to see more from the developers in the future!

Are there alternatives to Google Drive and its respective programs (Docs, Sheets, etc.) that are suitable for individual use? I feel like every time I try to look this up, everything is really focused on business stuff. The fact of the matter is, that if a client wants to use Google or Microsoft, that's their problem and not mine, but that doesn't mean I want to put my own personal stuff there!

Thus, I am investigating alternatives and would appreciate any guidance the more tech savvy folks of the fediverse have to offer (unless it's a suggestion to host my own server since I'm very uninterested in learning how to do that right now).
