As we get into Musk's DOGE antics in 2025, I think it's useful to remind ourselves where the gov't actually spends its money.

This probably wasn't their main goal, but @grimalkina and @anthrocypher have scientifically defined what makes good senior devs (and higher) good.

For early-in-career devs trying to understand what it takes to move up the org chart, go read and digest their paper.

You can tell a Gen Xer because we can't ever get the the Royal Canadian Mounted Police's acronym right. We always do it RMCP, the MountFleas. 🤣

I just finished up the second episode of "Change, Technically" and oh my god everybody should be listening to this. Big props to @analog_ashley @grimalkina, and @danilo. Y'all nailed it on the first try.

I originally boosted this, but I want to make sure this hits all my followers, not just the ones that allow my boosts. Read what @fyrfli said here:

Getting Black voices into your life is good. Collecting Black follows and expecting them to make you less racist by osmosis is not.

My follow list is full of Black folks, but only a few of them actively educate all the time, like @mekkaokereke. The rest I follow because I like something they like. Please do the same.

tl;dr: don't take your ADHD meds with juice, or at the same time as your vitamins.

I know I have some ADHD and various other neurospicy folks that follow me. This was news to me, if it's news to you too I hope it helps in some way.

@ellie the use case I'm excited about--at my job we have a knowledge base, a wiki, and we have to do a lot of maintenance work on Linux servers. This would let me glue all those things together for the not-so-common stuff we have to do. Like...expanding the disk on an Ubuntu VM.

Dear friends, what's some cool shit going on in your life right now? I see y'all out there talking about new games, new music, new work stuff, whatever. Let's hear it!

In my house we got a couch for our media room which became the impetus to finally get that room fully set up. It's not done yet, but my wife cranked on it over the weekend and it's really coming together. We spent some time chilling with the dog watching Beetlejuice and just being a family.

There's a take I've seen pop up a few times already today, so I guess it's in the water.

It goes something like "there's lots of racism in the Fediverse, not just targeted racism, we need to focus on all of it".

My brothers, sisters, and enbys in Christ, this is the All Lives Matter argument. If you are an ally, please please PLEASE don't use this.

Yes, there is casual and systemic racism in the fedi, but the targeted stuff is the bleeding that needs to be stopped FIRST.

Some context: a common paradigm we see

Person A: YOU HAVE NO IDEA THE HARASSMENT I RECEIVE!

Person B: Oh no! Have you tried changing instances?

Person C: OMG is your instance not moderated?

Person D: I don’t see it? What are you even talking about?

Person E: Are you reporting these to your mods? People can’t fix what they don’t see!

Person F: Are you reporting these to other mods? People can’t fix what they don’t see!

Hachyderm.io has its problems as an instance, but they published a GREAT explainer for moderation on Mastodon. It's part 1 of a series, but I found it particularly useful for describing the experience of BIPOC folx compared to white folx.
