Our clubstation OH3NE antennas in a quite cool lightning. The stack contains multiple band antennas on a rotator. On top of the tower you can see input antennas for our local FM repeater.

What an activation! We activated together with @OG3E the "Seitseminen national park" (both with our own calls).
Total 142 QSOs from which 61 on CW.
Three hunters from US on 10m, that was delightful. I need to activate on 10m more!
"The mires – that cover more than half of the park's area – are inhabited by black grouses, common cranes, whooper swans, wood sandpipers and northern willow grouses. "

I built three new CW paddles, two of them are made as presents. Took a group photo of all the keys before their ways apart :)
Also tested the new Prusa Slicer "knurled" surface.

I got my first christmas present from the radio-santa @OG3E himself : log periodic 2m/70cm antenna. Pretty cool. I've been always fascinated with logperiodics, this is my first one.
This is the christmas HAM spirit we all need!
(yeah.. a bit weird photo angle but I had to get discone and the new one in same frame)

KH1 with the accessories is about 1500 euros in Europe.
QMX costs about 200 euros when you order it built. Add tuner (100 euros?) and battery ~30 euros and you are still 1/5th of the price of KH1.
I feel like someone is making good profit here..

I seem to always pick my self-designed and built CW key as weapon of choice when going to activating WWFF refs. I have multiple portable keys with me but I always choose this one. I like how I can hold it in my palm.

Activating today two WWFF/POTA refs. This one was "Hirvijärvi (Ylöjärvi)" OHFF-0599 / FI-0364.
The activation area was smushy soil that sunk my shoe half away into water. Before getting to the area, I needed to cross these slimy rounded logs.

Any ideas why vertical antennas (for example JPC12 or MC-75) are grounded from the ground spike? I thought the radials (which acts as counterpoise?) needs to be disconnected from ground - there should be no galvanic connection?

Today I was browsing through files and found one of my photos from the summer.
I realized that this and only this is important. Go to nature, take out radio and make contacts.
The benefits of doing so are so major that it feels like everything else is secondary.

Find a higher ground, enjoy meshtastic sunset!?
I've still don't understand reason for Meshtastic - and I still don't - yet I'm walking around in park with radio and self built 868 Mhz antenna trying to find some nodes.

When I was activating today a WWFF spot, I forgot my external battery for my IC-705. For my relief the internal battery was full but that meant that I have 5W power only. For CW that is not a problem but on SSB it starts making things a bit difficult, so I thought.
But it didn't! I was actually amazed that I could make many contacts to central parts of europe with 5W SSB!
I started to think that maybe propagation and HF radio weather has bigger effect than we think?

22km pedal powered activation revisiting again my first ever WWFF activation spot.
While bicycling back during sunset (in shorts and it is end of september!) I was thinking that humans place is outside in the nature. It has some magical power, it triggers probably something very primary.

Radiotherapy in forest.
I like to go the nearby WWFF reference (OHFF-0201) and just make some QSOs. This time I set up my hammock and worked from that. @OG3E has named this activity "Hammocks-On-The-Air" = HOTA.
Worked 41 QSOs with QMX and a random wire. Bad propagation? Couldn't see that.

Pedal powered activation to nearest spot from QTH to just "Play some radio".
QMX and less than 5W power to random wire and managed to work 29 QSOs on CW - exceeded my target by 28 QSOs.

I've been toying around with HAM activation program: Park Benches On The Air or BOTA.
Idea is simple: any public park bench is an activation spot.
You activate the bench by setting up your radio station next to the bench and spot yourself by using mobile app (accurate GPS required) and by taking two photos of your station setup. This information is then published on the web publicly.
Idea is to get people go out (low effort easy), play some radio and no need for admin / byrocracy.
