When I was activating today a WWFF spot, I forgot my external battery for my IC-705. For my relief the internal battery was full but that meant that I have 5W power only. For CW that is not a problem but on SSB it starts making things a bit difficult, so I thought.
But it didn't! I was actually amazed that I could make many contacts to central parts of europe with 5W SSB!
I started to think that maybe propagation and HF radio weather has bigger effect than we think?

@OH3CUF we tend to focus on what we can control? Losing 50% of your power puts you 3dB down, or half an S unit. Other operators could hear the difference if you lost it half way through a QSO, but whether or not they could copy you at all would be up to the ionosphere, yes.
