Chad’s helping me experiment with some different collar shapes on the pleated from shirt. This peaky version is more like what I originally designed.

The #ElfkinCollection #sewing decathlon moves into the next event: pattern alterations and refinements for the leather shorts and brocade hoodie looks. Currently bringing in the bicep on the pleated front shirt’s sleeve and truing the underarm seam.

I met with the third of the three seamstresses who will be joining me for this leg of Elfkin’s journey. He was fab! The hunt for a suitable trunk show venue, though, is total crap. Place I visited today was both ugly and expensive. Maybe the show’ll be in a parking lot after all!

Also, the Openvibe app may be my new favorite thing. It makes cross posting my sewing stuff to Blooskee waaaaay easier. Thanks for the tip, @motoridersd !

The test stitch up of the brocade hoodie that I intend to put in the #ElfkinCollection trunk show is done! It’s going to require myriad revisions to finalize the pattern for the seamstresses, but even in its not-quite-there state and using a whatever fabric, I still love it. #sewing #fashion

I designed the brocade hoodie with faux cuffs on the sleeves and have hopes (fantasies?) that I’ll be able to catch them in with the sleeve lining attachment. Let’s see how that goes for me… #sewing #ElfkinCollection

With the tricky collar/facing attachment bits completed last night, I’m onto the easy part of attaching the lining to the brocade hoodie and one step closer to being done with this test stitch. And you can bet your bippy that I left a big gap in the hem for bagging out! #sewing #ElfkinCollection

Yeah, this isn’t getting finished tonight. The bias opening + cut-on facings + hood = more engineering challenges than I expected to close the lining cleanly. It’s possible, and I’ve got the hard part done, but the last of it shall have to wait until morning. https://woof.group/@elfkin/113863821006624775

The lining for the brocade hoodie test is done! I’ll put it all together after dinner, gods willing. #sewing #ElfkinCollection

Oh good, the Santa Ana winds are blowing again in LA this afternoon. Of course I don’t find it at all triggering. Why do you ask?

Cotton flannel* lining pieces and more brocade facings are cut and marked for the test stitch up of the brocade hoodie. I’ve dared myself to have them all assembled and attached to the shell by tonight. #sewing #ElfkinCollection

Considering these pockets on the brocade hoodie more carefully, they’re going to need to be horizontal rather than slant. Because of the bias opening at the front of the hoodie, there’s just no room for a hand to get into a slant pocket on the narrow half of the front. Oh, well!

The pockets on the brocade hoodie require work before I can finalize this pattern. The opening is too short, welt “wings” need widening, and pocket bag needs reshaping per this ugly hack I just made. This is why I test all of my newly drafted patterns with cheap fabric! #sewing #ElfkinCollection

I'd like to share some timely advice that my mother bestowed upon me as a (very obviously gay) child: “what bullies want most is to see you upset; don't give them the satisfaction.” #lgbtq

I’m back in the #sewing room putting the pockets into this brocade hoodie. Normally I don’t bother with basting stitches on a test stitch up like this. But putting in welted pockets with just pins isn’t my idea of a good time.

Just met with the second of the seamstresses I’ll be working with for the trunk show. Good vibes all around.
Again I was told that I’m unusually well prepared and clear with what I want. And again I wonder to myself how one could expect a seamstress to be successful without being prepared with clear instructions.

The flood of confused TikTok/Meta refugees in the Fediverse this weekend has been like watching a cheerleading squad that got lost and ended up at a Model U.N. convention. <chef’s kiss>

I still need to put in the pockets, but the shell of the test brocade hoodie is otherwise done (the hood gets attached later with the flannel lining). I’m definitely pleased with the fit.
I’d planned to use darker, more traditional brocades for the final versions that I’ll offer for sale.
But this bright, abstract look has charms.
There’s also something “grandma Kay’s housecoat” about it. I’ll have to wear it out and see how people react. #sewing #ElfkinCollection
