Hey #woodworking fediverse, I have a conundrum. I have a thing like this pictured below. Mounting it into my drill as sticking-out of the drill I can possibly mount it, it can reach all the way to about 1/4 inches from where I need it to reach.

Is there any way to extend that little metal stick? Is there some kind of drill bit extension thing that can grab onto a round (non-hex) bit, to allow me to reach just a little bit further?

I'm willing to permanently alter / destroy the sander and/or the drill if necessary

One of the more wholesome things that happens sometimes on the fediverse is when you find a really cool profile and you follow it, and then a few hours later you find this person has not only followed you back, but also gone and liked a handful of your posts from deep in your timeline.

It's one of those things that just makes you feel a connection, points to common interests, and makes you feel seen -- all without a single word typed. Hello, new friend!

Youtube: what if we autoplay videos whenever your mouse is over them?

Me: Turbo annoying, but i guess i can park the mouse in a grid gutter while i scroll.

Youtube: ....but what if you couldn't

I think @JuliusGoat hit it out of the park with this:

It seems to me that when you create a world where human life has been made as cheap as possible, you will eventually find you live in a world where your human life is deemed by others to be cheap, too.

...

Do I celebrate the murder of Brian Thompson? I do not. I'd like a world without murder. I also know how many people our healthcare system murders every year

Does anyone have preferred vendors -- preferably LGBTQ+ owned -- for LGBTQ+ apparel? Due to where I live (Iowa) and the current goings on I am looking to start wearing my allegiances on my sleeves, so to speak.

I found this on amazon and I like the vibe, but given that if you look closely enough most of the manufacturers there happily also make apparel for things I do NOT want to support, I figure Amazon isn't the right place.

Getting REAL TIRED of writing ublock origin filters to try to strip out Slack's "plz enable our AI trial" nonense. It's like they add a new dom element somewhere else every week.

OK so I finally gave NixOS a shot and oh gosh it's a game changer. The thing NixOS solves is everything I hate about linux that I apparently mistakenly believed was "just how linux works".

I honestly did not know it was possible for a linux system to not suck as much as NixOS doesn't suck.

So back in August my employer tried to FedEx me a macbook and it vanished -- in that the FedEx tracking page still shows it as "We have your package" at the origin facility (amusingly, it still shows as "on time").

On Friday, it suddenly popped up in my Jamf inventory -- someone wiped it and it automatically enrolled via Apple Business Manager.

So, what is an enterprising Jamf Administrator to do? ...besides the obvious "just lock it".

Wrong answers only.

Here is a useful error message:

The signing keys have expired. You can update them via

sudo pacman -S archlinux-keyring

sudo pacman-key --refresh-keys

Or, better yet, don't have an error at all and just do this automatically.

But if it did that, you wouldn't be able to feel super cool key-jockeying your crypto shit, and if you don't intrinsically know this then maybe you're just too dumb to Arch.

This attitude seems to be pervasive across the entire operating system.

Here's my problem with #ArchLinux: it seems to greatly prioritize "feeling super cool h4x0rm4n" over actually being useful.

Take package updates for example. If it's been a while, it will almost certainly tell you for every package you're trying to update:

[Package file] is corrupted (invalid or corrupted package (PGP signature)).

Oh shit! Corrupted file! MITM! Hax!

Lol no. Nowhere, anywhere, does it tell you what the actual (trivial) problem is, or how to fix it.

Here it is next to a prototype I cut out of cheap wood, though from before I finished the dials.

My son has dutifully applied some decoration to the prototype 😅

It's vaguely based on a design I found on 3axis.co, but fully parametrized and with improved pins and dimensions.

I just finished a piggy bank for my almost-two-year-old. It's made of solid oak, and opens with the correct 3 digit code. I designed the locking pins such that the code can easily be changed.

I'm pretty proud of how it turned out!

I was looking at some flights two days ago; they were $877 per person. Then yesterday they were $768 per person. Today they are $1089 per person.

If I buy my tickets today, will I regret it tomorrow? Who knows!

Dear airlines, this is (one of the reasons) why everyone hates you.

Heh, starting up #Cyberpunk2077 for the first time today, and I have to admit I'm vaguely amused by the bullshit launcher which seems to exist for the sole purpose of trying to sell me The Witcher 3, which I already own.

I understand the game is set in a terminal-stage-capitalist dystopia, but I wasn't expecting it to go full ARG on me.

I use Firefox and realistically I'm not going to stop, but I just have to take a moment to express my frustration at how they handle sponsored content.

It's always opt-out on-by-default. You can turn it off. They don't turn it on again for you, no, they just introduce a different sponsored thing with a new setting that's opt-out on-by-default.

"We didn't turn it back on -- you opted out of sponsored content along the left side of the window! These are on the right side" 😐😐😐
