My in-laws have asked for some audiobook support. They want to be able to play audiobooks using their TV.

They get audiobooks through Libby installed on an Android phone, and they have an iPad where they can install it as well. I think we should be able to just cast the audio from one of those devices to the TV.

However…is there an audiobook app out there for smart TVs? Or a better way to do this? Suggestions welcome!

@romancelandia Hey romance readers, I have a box of old category romances from the 1980s-2010s or so, left after a library book sale where I was volunteering. (See the first post in this thread.)

I would love for them to go to people who actually want them. I am happy to mail them, definitely in the US and maybe elsewhere if postage is not too expensive.

Please message me if there are some books you’d like me to send you - I’ll cover the postage and just ask that you please donate, if you can/what you can to your local public library.

Old category romance novels (because I needed somewhere to put these pictures so I could share with the intended recipients.) I will work on adding all the titles/authors!

@klairelockheart I got to see the Fibers and Figures exhibit today! So fun to see the paintings in person - the colors are so vivid in a way they’re not on a screen, and your pieces are a lovely counterpoint to Laura Wennstrom’s. 🎨

My spouse, just now: what’s that ceremony we went to for your friend?

Me: Ordination?

Him: that’s it! I couldn’t think of it. My first thought was coronation, but I knew that was wrong. Then I thought he was finishing seminary, so maybe it was insemination, but that’s not right. And it wasn’t dissemination either.

Me: 🤣

Language is fun, y’all!

Does anyone else’s family use “Mister Rogers” as a verb to describe the act of changing clothes before doing or after completing an activity? Just us? @bryan

OH: “I have argued about code on the internet, and now I must go make sawdust.”

This is probably a solid choice for my dear spouse. He has to finish someone’s birthday present. And outside air is smoky today, so I doubt we’re going outside.

I got a second pair of glasses in a slightly different prescription specifically for all the time I spend staring at screens. They’re great, A+, much improvement to my screen reading experience.

However, this means twice the lenses to smudge and smear, and this is even more likely because I’m putting them on and taking them off so much more often. 🤷🏽‍♀️

The person who invents truly unsmudgeable lenses will deserve every bit of their success.

Strange noises come from @bryan ’s laptop at the other end of the couch. I ask, “What are you doing over there on the internet?”

He says, “Watching cats be surprised by toasters.”

Okay, fair enough. 🤣

Update: brownies are also good with apricots and rosemary.

Hmm, maybe @bryan should add apricots and rosemary to his next sourdough loaf?

Things I might do differently next time: soak the dried apricots in some liquid to rehydrate them a bit, grind the dried rosemary rather than try to chop it (it flew all over the counter), maybe add some oats for a bit more texture in the muffin. (As always when I make muffins, I used the Betty Crocker cookbook, blueberry muffin recipe and tweak from there.)

Someone I follow posted a recipe recently that combined apricot and rosemary (a cookie, maybe?) I didn’t make the specific recipe and haven’t been able to find the post again, but the flavor combination stuck with me, so I made apricot rosemary muffins - and they turned out really well! A+, would recommend! Thanks for the suggestion, random internet friend!

A moment of silence for the expiration of one of my library cards. I used it only for digital materials after I moved in 2020…and four years later, they have finally shut off my access, which can only be restored in person, with proof of residency which I can no longer provide.

It was a good run, and I appreciate everything that public library (and ALL public libraries) provided.

Maybe now I will find a library that will let me pay a fee for access as an out-of-area patron.

December 9: Mamma Mia! (The Movie Soundtrack)

I can't remember why I wanted this album. However, there is something particularly endearing about the actors in the movie who are less-than-polished singers, and the way they give it their all anyway.

December 8: Israel Kamakawiwo'ole - Facing Future

When we lived in the Boston area, there was a radio station that had a mellow music show, and Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's version of "Over the Rainbow" was always the final song of the show. When we were picking through the remaining CDs at the end of the local library book sale this summer, this is one of the ones we grabbed.
