Baby steps...
A fursuiter who was clinging to Twitter said a while back that he didn't think Trump could do much harm because "checks and balances" will protect us.
He's apparently now, finally, moved to Bsky, and he commented how Elon's Nazi salute maybe, possibly can't be a silly mistake or just trolling after all, and it's blowing his mind.
I hope he continues to learn! Maybe eventually he'll discover that a lot of "checks and balances" aren't institutions but many, many people putting themselves on the line to protect others, including his unappreciative gay ass.

This is his own passion project, after being forced out of corporate work during one of the recent waves of layoffs that hit the tech industry. He's already navigated the complicated path of adjusting to the "solopreneur" lifestyle, and he wants to help others with the knowledge and resources he's collected along the way.
You may not see much content at @sofawolfone but that's because he's been focusing on building a presence on LinkedIn.
However, I see a LOT of like-minded people here in the Fediverse who I think are ready to take that leap to working for themselves, but who need a helping hand to take that first step. Please help me spread the word to them!
Jeff is really great working one-on-one, so please don't hesitate to reach out if you're curious. He's definitely not the hard-sell type and is happy to talk about what he's offering so you can decide if it's right for you.

So, talking about your hobbies and interests is "making small talk" if you're neurotypical.
But if you're neurodivergent, it's "infodumping."
Do I have that right?

I don't understand why so many people are reposting the screed about "there is no algorithm on Mastodon" and therefore liking things does NOTHING (but tell the creator that you liked Thing). As if people don't understand already.
If people are liking your stuff, but not boosting it, it's because they like it, but for whatever reason don't think it's something their own followers would like (or would like seen boosted yet again). You shouldn't take it personally!

A taxonomic proposal:
[#]AI = Artificial Intelligence
Using tools such as neural networks and machine learning on deliberately curated training data to perform specific tasks, such as Cornell University's Merlin app for bird identification.
[#]AM = Artificial Mediocrity
Mediocrity by definition: using large language models to generate the statistically most average/representative text/code response from an input, trained on a ginormous grab bag of data, under the assumption that the most common response in the training data is the best response, such as ChatGPT, Copilot, etc.

"Embrace [AI|God] or be left behind."
Can we please have the AI Rapture already? I'd love to have all the AI Evangelists disappear and leave the rest of us behind.
Do we have a computer big enough for us to upload all their consciousnesses to? And then unplug it?

One thing I wish Mastodon had was a way to annotate your mutes and blocks. You can add a personal, private note for people you follow; you should be able to do the same for blocks and mutes!
For example, I may not remember, months or years from now, that the reason I blocked a seemingly random account was because of their whataboutism in justification of genocide.

'The people running the tech industry are no longer those that built it. Larry Page and Sergey Brin left Google in December 2019..., and while they remain as controlling shareholders, they clearly don’t give a shit about what “Google” means anymore.'
'This is the result of taking technology out of the hands of real builders and handing it to managers at a time when “management” is synonymous with “staying as far away from actual work as possible.” And when you’re a do-nothing looking to profit as much as possible, you only care about growth. You’re not a user, you’re a parasite, and it’s these parasites that have dominated and are draining the tech industry of its value.'

Quoting an interview in the Guardian with Raghavan:
'[The interview] speaks of Raghavan’s “scientific approach” and his “steady, process-based logic to innovation that is very different to the common perception that ideas and development are more about luck and spontaneity,” a sentence I am only sharing with you because I need you to see how stupid it is, and how specious the tech press’ accolades used to be.'

LB: This article starts out with a lot of office politics, but stick with it! It builds towards an overall assessment of internet search and tech industry in general that is worth reading.
"These emails — which I encourage you to look up — tell a dramatic story about how Google’s finance and advertising teams, led by Raghavan with the blessing of CEO Sundar Pichai, actively worked to make Google worse to make the company more money. This is what I mean when I talk about the Rot Economy — the illogical, product-destroying mindset that turns the products you love into torturous, frustrating quasi-tools that require you to fight the company’s intentions to get the service you want."
