Two involved days later, and I think I've gotten everything set up. Many things are nicer (e.g. no more green tint at low brightness! root-level charge limit got easier), some things I'll miss, and I s'pose I now have a project phone to low-stakes try to fully repair as time permits.
I will remember coral fondly, it got me through an eventful 5 years (pandemic, family matters, meeting folks, etc).

Welp, replacement phone it is.
I reseated the broken battery connector yet again while waiting for replacement (as it slowly drains to shutting off during the times the phone can't tell that it's safe to charge), and I must've messed something up elsewhere because now the side power button is stuck activated, infinitely rebooting.
I can work around that by unplugging the side buttons from the motherboard inside, but that's not a sustainable option - I'm using my phone partially for work so it's gotta be reliable. 5 years in, I guess I'll make use of the weirdly conveniently timed Pixel discount from Google.

It's weird using a smartphone without a working battery meter/percent charge gauge.
I have no idea if it's full or about to turn off. I just have a rough sense of how quickly I remember it draining and how long it's been since I've charged it.
(New battery arrives next week… Fingers crossed I can install it safely and that this fixes the issue.)
EDIT: Reseating the broken battery connector gets the battery meter working for a few more hours so far.

My Pixel 4 XL's battery connector partially broke so the phone can't tell what charge the battery has, but I don't want to replace my phone yet, dang it!
Fingers crossed I can successfully swap the battery (and thus the connector) with the parts from iFixit. Tonight, digging out a teeny-tiny broken piece of copper and adding a bit of extra pressure behind the connector seems to have made the current battery work for now; I'm hoping this doesn't damage anything for the new battery's connector.

My family recently had the entire fridge door replaced under warranty to fix a faulty water dispenser door light - apparently the wires inside are too short and get mangled.
New problem - now the fridge will infrequently, randomly begin dispensing water without a cup present. It's happened twice so far, rare enough that it'll be hard to catch on camera.
I'm hoping their 1 month extension of the full-service 1 year warranty will be extended a bit more, because this Life's not Good…
EDIT: After Dad talked to three different customer support folks, a service technician has been assigned to investigate. Thankfully, so far the child lock stops the fridge from dispensing water whenever it feels like it.

I have similarly upgraded my Mastodon server, including switching to libvips for media processing. I haven't formerly measured it, but despite using the same spec VPS, media loading feels.. snappier? As does the entire interface, slightly.

Through the magic of configuration management, I've upgrade-rebuilt my main server computer with only a couple of commands and about an hour of preparation. That feels nice.
(I know about NixOS, I haven't converted over to it yet… I do have a small file server using it.)

I've had a couple folks compliment my laughter, especially when they're teasing* me, and… I dunno.
In the moment, I worry about being off-putting to those around me. Afterwards, I wonder if they're feeling obligated because of how positively I respond to their attention.
It's weird. I have to wrestle myself to not frequently ask if they're actually happy or just trying to be nice to me. To not fret that if I let myself continue to express shy happiness about things, some folks will go until they're burn out.
…and, I mean, one notable friend did burn out, but.. they said it wasn't my fault. I still feel unsure.
(* It's more of pleasantly overwhelming while being caring, weighted blanket-like teasing. Not derogatory teasing.)

Thanks to RTGame doing a "watch all Skibidi Toilet" stream, I decided I might as well form my own opinion first.. and watched all finished seasons.
For what it is, it seems decently made. Some plot points happen. But.. I don't get how it went viral. Not bad, not amazing.
I am glad random and weird stuff can still happen and get popular, though. More passion projects!

To all who celebrate anything today, happy day! Holidays / Christmas / near Solstice / etc :blobfoxfloofhappy:
And to those of you in retail, restaurants, site reliability engineering, state parks, utility services, etc etc etc who don't get the day off, thank you for keeping things going, I hope you can get some rest soon :blobfoxheart:

Need a last minute holiday stocking stuffer? Slip this tiny fox into your sock and keep your toes warm.
(I only brought one of my two weighted blankets on this trip to visit family since they're.. well.. weighted, and hard to carry. I might be regretting this choice. But it has been nice visiting folks, and I'm thankful for the time off.)

An Internet radio station has been putting on a lot of "throwback" classic songs, and they're not as old as the ones I remember them playing (10-15 years ago).
I think I'm a throwback.

Also, uh, indoor fursuit paws are really nice. I would like to experience more of those things on my face :blobfoxpatmelt3:
But also just getting to hug folks is nice. And playing physical board games, no Internet required.

For my first time in-person visiting some Internet folks, it went quite well.
Also, first time getting hugged by someone wearing a fursuit. I had no idea how soft and cozy that would feel… Gonna have to eventually build/save up for one myself. (So far, I have ears that Mom made and she long-ago commissioned someone to make a tail.)

First time rolling on thick, reinforced latex paint (DuraTex) to protect a DIY speaker box, only to realize there's probably a non-zero number of critters following me that are far more familiar with that range of paints than I am…
(The paint does seem to do quite well - my lackluster attempts at sanding and painting the wooden box almost disappear.)

I just learned you can refresh/reload multiple tabs at once in Firefox if you first select multiple tabs (e.g. Ctrl/Shift + click tabs).
A rare thing for me to do, but I can imagine this being useful.

Thanks to a friend's gift, I've upgraded from a 12+ year old "analog twist knob, no temperature sensor" Velleman VTSS5 soldering station, to a Pine64 Pinecil v2, and dang…
I'm kind of intimidated holding this thing. While only slightly higher power (65 watts vs old 50w), it's much lighter and hits 320°C in about 8 seconds. Plus, the soft electrical switching sounds inside make me think I'm about to shock or burn my hand. I think the noises are normal though.
