Why does reports of #spam on #mastodon get send to your own server, and optionally to the mods of the server of the spamming account?

Wouldn't it make more sense to make it a choice?

If there is spam from some random spammy server and defederation should be considered > send to own server mods.

If its a well known server > send only to mods of other server.

I recently bought a HiFi set from the eighties and started wondering. Sure, its aesthetics to buy a second hand vintage set, but I'm pretty sure that its quality is better than affordable new options.

What effects does it have when we broadly start to feel the old is actually better? With clothes this is also really apparent. Buying a new t-shirt means it already feels its disintegrating after 10 washes. Never mind sustainability, it is just a worse experience.

Hot take: AI chat is cool in the same way slavery is cool.

It gives you awesome and cheap solutions as long as you can abstract away the questionable business practices that are hidden from view.

Running Mistral locally using Open WebUI does impress me, but I can't help but think of the copyright violations that have been used to train the model.

At least I'm not using external infrastructure to run it, but still.

Het delen van dit soort info heeft vele voordelen. Natuurlijk transparantie als open overheid. Maar het maakt het voor (beginnende) techies eenvoudiger om ook mee te doen.

En het is gewoon leuk om als technisch onderlegde ambtenaar je bevindingen te delen met een breder publiek.

This is a false narrative used to detract.

Instead we should align orgs like #openai to shared goals for a better society. By making sure their innovations don't negatively impact communities by taking water and electricity while giving nothing but walled gardens in return.

Don't align tech in abstract, but companies to clear shared goals.

For years now, I've been getting by without using #whatsapp, have been avoiding #meta services for years now. But recently it has become more and more of an issue for (professional) networking.

Should I just give up and start using WhatsApp?

Apparently almost no one else is bothered enough to avoid it, so maybe I'm just overreacting? The network effect is just too powerful but I don't want to add to it. Oh #principes

There is little doubt that #tiktok is an effective medium for #cryptoscams and other negative influences. But why?

Well, a video can contain a lot more contextual information. It communicates a group identity, #fomo and other 'vibes' more effectively than a piece of text.

The move from text to multimedia has a lot of repercussions that I fear is just labeled as technological enhancement instead of being seen as entirely new ways of communicating.

How many extreme right straw/strongmen need to be elected before we ban #TikTok? How much trans hate and bigotry before shutting down #twitter?

Why are we in the west so willing to let in these Trojan horses that are clearly helping to demolish our democratic ideals?

We really need to stop thinking everything is a free market. Social media indoctrination is a real threat, and not just something we can fix by twisting a few knobs here and slapping some wrists there.

A quick search thought me that many existing STT FOSS solutions have moved from local solutions to models that rely on pretrained data.

It concerns me that these solutions are basically turned into a façade which relies on huge, centralised compute.

How is it FOSS it it needs huge capital powered datafarms to train the initial model? Perhaps I'm too purist with my build from source Linux distro and the like, but local architecture is important.

Does anyone know of a FOSS, non-cloud speech to text note taking application which may help to order thoughts and ideas?

I've never really liked the idea of talking to a machine, but I realise I need something to work through stuff in a more structured manner. So summarising and categorising should be part of the workflow.

I'm using degoogled android and Linux

[#]yezilgoz heeft gisteren laten zien dat de waarheid er niet toe doet, zolang uitspraken maar voldoen aan de vibes van de meerderheid.

Een half jaar liegen en vervolgens daar niet op willen reflecteren, het is een al te bekend patroon bij de #VVD.

Het zou daarom een goed signaal zijn als dinsdag meer partijen voor de motie van afkeuring of wantrouwen stemmen.

Het 'Bullshitten', losjes omgaan met de werkelijkheid is schadelijk voor de democratie.

Politieke partijen moeten meer als gemeenschappen gaan opereren. Ik denk dat dit met name een oproep aan de midden partijen is.

Op de flanken wordt meer als 'beweging' gesproken. Daar is het zijn van een club niet alleen politiek, maar ook existentieel.

Interessant idee. Timmermans lijkt toch niet zo in z'n nopjes als leider van de tweede partij en als dit een beetje snel kan worden ingezet, dan is er nog tijd om weer terug te gaan naar Europa, waar hij echt iets voor de wereld kan betekenen.

@knmi de weersverwachtingen pagina is laatst aangepast. Ipv kunnen scrollen voor meer info over komende dagen, moeten deze nu afzonderlijk worden opengeklikt.

Niet echt handig, zeker niet voor linkshandigen, want de + knop zit aan de rechter kant. Zou al beter werken als klikken op het vierkant van de dag zou volstaan.

Op mijn reis naar de kantoortuin het boek Frictie, ethiek in tijden van dataïsme van @mirias aan het lezen.

Relevant omdat we bij automatisering te weinig stil staan bij oordelen die impliciet worden gemaakt in onze systemen.

Het outsourcen van een oordeel is geen goed idee, maar wie waagt het om bij het opstellen van IT architectuur, voor te stellen om alvast wat grind tussen de tandwielen te strooien?
