not to mention the weird economy around lego as a whole, where people buy hundreds of a rare set & keep them in warehouses for years until they're worth 10x..

It's quite sad that the cost of #LEGO actually reduces it's enjoyment.. I got a reasonably expensive (1460 brick) set for my birthday last year, and i still haven't even opened it because it was so expensive - that money might need to be used for something more important / needed :(

Monitor successfully repaired with a new driver board for £14!

This is the advantage of white-label tech, it's produced in massive quantities so is easy to get cheap parts for, and is cheap to buy in general (this monitor cost ~£270 new)

A new fun thing i've found to do is finding higher-res versions of #publicdomain images on #commons

eg. After about 40 mins of searching, i managed to find and upload a higher-res version of https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Agent_Orange_Cropdusting.jpg

It's important to not just upload stuff, but to maintain what's already there 🥰

Today on #plannedObsolence : the #Logitech MX Anywhere 3.

My scroll-wheel is beginning to fail, so I opened it up and found that the mouse refuses to work at all unless the scroll wheel magnet is detected by a small chip. (the same chip that handles scrolling & is now beginning to fail on my mouse)

In effect, if this tiny chip - only responsible for scrolling - fails, the whole mouse won't work.
