This mastodon instance has been down for a few days and in the mean time I have continued to enjoy using my new GoToSocial instance.

Followers should be moved over to @amd@gts.amd.im in a few hours.

I’m going to give GoToSocial a test as a replacement for this personal instance.

You may see a follow request from @amd@gts.amd.im as I start evaluating it further.

Who is out there on GoToSocial and can recommend the best iOS app?

Is it just @phanpy as a PWA?

My kids named my van the Millennium Falcon, so I felt it would be fun to label her with the name.

Slicers have gotten so good at customizing models that I designed these in @FreeCAD specifically to be easily customized using slicer primitives and is printable on smaller printers (~250mm beds)

Libre license, libre formats, share, modify, enjoy.

I’m getting much more comfortable in @FreeCAD.

The 1.0 release is much more resilient than it used to be and I’m getting much better at doing things the freecad way (I think…)

I still have yet to tackle the assembly workbench.

One way to do this seems to be using a sink with pipewire-pulse but this seems to not work at all for me.

I don’t have working mDNS on my network for reasons only known to the elder gods, but even manually entering the IP doesn’t seem to do anything.

Does anyone have working #pulseaudio network sinks under #pipewire ?

I too have deleted my account that had literally tens of dormant followers and perhaps even dozens of tweets going back to the days when it was still fun in 1973.

You all should know how I have sacrificed.

I built up this Trident about a year ago now and I’m still so happy with it.

It’s not the best at anything but it’s pretty damn good at everything I’ve asked it to do and it’s been a reliable workhorse.

If you’re DIY printer curious, I recommend it. There’s really no better way to learn the ins and outs of how these things work.

My current plan is to add a check for whether the chamber is below ~50C and only run the heat soak then.

I get a good bit of “loss” when I open the doors and change the plate, but it comes right back to temp.

This check will be a little false if I reset the print while I’m doing my first preheat of the day, but that’s the exception and I can just try to remember to manually heat soak it a bit if that happens.

3D Printers of the Fediverse: how do you handle heat soaking for printing styrenes or polycarbonates?

I have a #voron trident with bed fans that gets reasonably toasty (60-62C) but it takes a while to get there. I currently have a heat soak macro built into my PRINT_START macro but that’s a big waste of time for back to back prints with a hot chamber.

Any tips or tricks?

I love my Ploopy Headphones but I unfortunately use multiple machines at the same desk and moving the usb cord is a bummer.

Is there some sort of device that will let me mux 2 or 3 computers in? or can I somehow reroute audio from other (Linux) computers into my primary workstation?

Note: the ploopy headphones require(*) the use of their own usb headphone amp so this hypothetical device needs to have USB out.

Me, 1 hour ago: “how long could it take to resize a system partition? It’s on nvme and I’ve got a couple hours before I want to use this again.”

My computer now: “14% complete…”

My next step is downloading a full iCloud library to an external drive on my Mac. Running an export from there, then importing into #Immich from there, then disabling iCloud Photo Library everywhere.

This is not a fix for people who want to use immich and iCloud Photo Library but that’s not my plan long term.

The #Immich iOS app seems fundamentally incapable of dealing with a 1.4tb 90k item iCloud library.

It crashes on my phone and loses its sync settings and fails to even properly load the settings panel on my iPad Pro.

I disabled iCloud Photo Library on my phone which left a random 5k local photos and that is working nicely. So I can get to a good future state somehow.

“In America's bizarre, worst-in-class, world-beatingly expensive privatized health care system, even public health provision (like Medicare) is outsourced to the private sector. Lincare has monopolized oxygen, a famously very important molecule for human survival, and if it were disqualified from serving Medicare, large numbers of Americans would literally asphyxiate.”

Setting up an #Immich install to see if I can get it to replace iCloud Photo Library.

I've never had anything self-hosted that was able to cope with >1tb of media (across dozens of formats) but people speak highly of it.

The app on my phone did crash twice on setting up the initial sync, but is now cranking away and at reasonable speeds given that i'm hosting locally in the #homelab.
