The newest transcription model available in SuperWhisper (Ultra V3 Turbo) thinks I'm "Alex Bialik" and adds the speaker in front of most transcriptions. It's quite fun.

I just spent some time merging outstanding PRs + bumping and trimming down dependencies on pegviz!

https://github.com/fasterthanlime/pegviz

You know what the say: the only thing more fun than one PEG is to peg.

unfortunately the position units remain a function of the input size... but at least zoom is consistent now? yaysob

of course you can't change that setting mid-edit, it'll mess up all positioning you did before, but for my next project, I'm definitely doing that.

but in "center crop with no resizing" mode, it shows screenshots actual-scale! you can make them all 2x if you want, but 1 screenshot pixel = 1 video pixel by default.

this is so much better!

see, with the default setting if you take a small rectangular screenshot, it's stretched all the way across the viewport — at a zoom level of 1, different-sized rectangles show at completely different magnification

holy shit I just discovered this timeline setting in DaVinci Resolve, that means when I insert screenshots of part of my screen they'll show up actual size!!! instead of me having to play with zoom all the freakin' time! ahhhhhh!

The audio delay (caused by playback buffer size) is about ~10-11ms on my Apple computers right now, I want to offset audio visualizations by that much to synchronize better.. but if the display is ~16ms late it would actually make things worse? I'm not sure I can tell when a frame is presented?

Hey, silly question: how do you know the real "display delay" when dealing with something like https://lib.rs/crates/egui on macOS?

I know what the audio delay is — the APIs report that. But when I make draw calls in egui, I have no idea how far in the future they'll show up. Should I assume one 60Hz frame? Two? Less? More??

TIL the difference between dB FS (decibel full spectrum, logarithmic, 0 = full amplitude, -Inf = zero amplitude) and dB SPL (decibel sound pressure level, also log, positive b/c relative to the quietest sound pressure the average human ear can detect — 20 micropascals)

dB FS are useful in signal processing and dB SPL are.. measured, and require calibration, depend on the room acoustics etc.

and here's a May 2023 article from bloomberg explaining why Google sponsors Firefox, if my original post sounded like a conspiracy theory to you: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/newsletters/2023-05-05/why-google-keeps-paying-mozilla-s-firefox-even-as-chrome-dominates

here's where "indie browser" appears in the firefox sources btw, if you thought I straight up made stuff up: https://searchfox.org/mozilla-central/search?q=indie+browser&path=&case=false&regexp=false

(it's even preceded by a fun comment)

y'all, if a non-profit's livelihood depends entirely on one big corporate sponsor... is it indie?

no. no it's not. mozillians know that. only their fan base keeps deluding themselves. and their new marketing plays into that. it's ridiculous and transparent.

(nobody on the fediverse seems too confused about it but my bluesky replies are a trash fire of anger and denial)

In more positive news, the Clockify desktop app on macOS got a lot better recently? In fact the whole product is a real joy to use now? I remember it being clunky a while ago, now everything just.. works, and it even has an auto tracker. I'm back to being a paid customer.

lmao Firefox billing itself an "indie browser" when poking you to make it the default is straight up disingenuous

I mean, you don't have to say out loud that it's basically Google's anti-antitrust insurance, but let's not err too far on the other side either...
