This is a lovely thread about balance in times of horror and calamity:

"There is no calamity so huge that there is not beauty and humor and joy to be had in the moments between actively working on solving or evading it.

Learning to take those moments, embrace the hell out of them, is what will make it all worth it, at whatever point you reach the end."

I finally got back to this piece, wrote some convoluted code, and came up with this. Opinions/advice on the code are especially welcome. Code here: https://gitlab.com/mitten-la/py5-sketches/-/tree/main/20250106 2/x

I started working on the prompt for Genuary day 6, and got quite stuck code-wise. What I thought would be easy wasn’t. Then a large chunk of LA was on fire, and I got a bit distracted. 1/x

I filter my feeds to keep from being overwhelmed by politcal news, and I have a couple requests:

• Use politicians' real names. I can't keep up with every joke name.

• If joke names are critical to your vibe, please add a tag like #USPol to the post

• Include the politician's name in your alt text when they're in an image (or quoted in a text image)

I know today is weird and I'm doing my best to be forgiving, but I don't wanna start muting/unfollowing unless I absolutely have to.

The mister and I saw Risky Business last night, at a movie night hosted by one of his industry friends. The screening was followed by a live zoom call with Jon Avnet, one of the producers, who noted in his remarks that when they went to Tangerine Dream for the soundtrack, they had Steve Reich's Music for 18 Musicians in mind. I did not know that, but I'm listening to it this morning, and yup, the bones of it are definitely there in the soundtrack music. Pretty cool.

[#]PortfolioDay, eh? These are some of my computational images (#py5), which are top of mind for me of late. Code here: https://gitlab.com/mitten-la/py5-sketches/-/tree/main

I also paint, though it has been tough to muster the will to do so for the last few years. Visit my online portfolio to see those: https://laurafisher.art

@lizalps@bsky.social has put together a spreadsheet of all the Hollywood crew GoFundMes she could find - the below-the-line people I mentioned earlier, who were already struggling before the fires. Many have been funded, which is marvelous, but there are many which aren't even at 25%. Help if you can, share if you can't - it's all good.

One more for you: Kedra was our neighbor up until about 2 weeks ago, when she moved into a new home in Altadena. She is a wonderful person and talented art director and could really use some support if you are able to share. https://www.gofundme.com/f/kedra-dawkins-lost-everything-we-can-help-her-rebuild

A couple of our friends lost everything in the Eaton Fire. One has already hit their target on their GoFundMe, so I’ll link here to the other: Robert Smith and his wife https://www.gofundme.com/f/house-lost-in-eaton-fire

Robert is a cinematographer, and all his gear is gone now, so if you camera nerds in my network have a few bucks to spare, I know Robert and his wife would appreciate it.
