LinkedIn's recommended post algorithm is really good. I'd say for every twenty bullshit posts, there's a pretty good one.

Might also just be because anyone attempting to be an influencer on LinkedIn, and therefore attempting to improve people's careers and skills and motivate at scale, probably do it from a place of at least some decency.

Today is the first day I felt envious about not being the target demographic for what I'm building.

Surely this is a sign. Whether it's a sign of of value creation or overconfidence again, I'm not sure, but I'm at least sure it's a sign.

Had to explain to my non-American in-laws that I won't eat duck until my university's football team, the Ducks, finish their season.

An incomplete list of tangents needed for context:

Father-In-Law's response: "Alright, Paul's eating hamburgers for Christmas."

Anyone else feel scared that an Italian friend will find out what kind of inauthentic "Italian" food abomination you've made at home and be horribly offended?

The gray winters here in Berlin mean:

This will be my eighth winter here, so I'm gonna try out light therapy lamp this time around.

I don't expect to be Mickey Mouse whistling on a stroll after the first use, but since they're made to reverse the above two processes, I'm excited to see how it works

My daughter, my wife and I took a trip to Gwangju last autumn.

One stop was of course the May 18th National Cemetery, a memorial for those killed in the deadly attacks on citizens in 1980 ordered by then-president Chun Doo-Hwan to suppress dissent. This was the previous time South Korea was under martial law.

I'm watching closely after today's shocking executive order of emergency martial law by President Yoon and subsequent vetoing by parliament.

I asked the free version of Claude to come up with marketing content for my page as a placeholder.

It's so damn compelling and polished that I feel like dropping my project altogether to work for Claude as my boss.

You know what was ridiculed constantly in the 90s but no one makes fun of anymore?

Boxed wine.

Is there more appreciation for cost efficiency now, or is it my hunch that the world is so screwed up that 750ml isn't enough to cope anymore?

Streaks are a wonderful way to keep users engaged and returning. Humans develop emotional attachments to streaks, and if the behavior behind them is in line with personal goals, it's perfect! Right?

Not necessarily:

  1. When you're overwhelmed with life (and everyone is sometimes), keeping a streak alive can be extremely taxing when resources are already limited

  1. A broken streak can be a serious motivational drain, and a user might not want to come back. Ever

One of my biggest personal disappointments of the year was when I waited at a red light next to a bunch of people in Mario Kart character costumes driving go karts and was unable to come up with anything witty to heckle them with through the window before the light turned green

Reddit is really, really great.

I've been struggling to book customer interviews recently - I spent weeks writing cold emails with no response, making cold calls with getting the phone slammed or wishing to do so but being too nice, targeting and messaging on LinkedIn with no reply, asking friends for referrals. Nothing. Nada.

Decided to just risk being spammy and submit a post to the target subreddit. People were really helpful and honest and nearly all also answered follow-up questions.
