Had to explain to my non-American in-laws that I won't eat duck until my university's football team, the Ducks, finish their season.

An incomplete list of tangents needed for context:

• American universities' athletic teams are big media sensations

• These teams have mascots

• Dumb sports superstitions

• College football is now a tournament so there isn't a clear end date anymore
