Something lovely today: I spotted this on my way to the grocery store. Still totally uninterested in going to church, but it made me so happy to see this church being publicly welcoming to queer and trans people, in a lower income neighborhood in Portland. The reader board sign thingie is on a busy street so loads of people see it. #transsupport

Organizing photos and documents and blog posts and was reminded of the ice storm last January, and this stitched piece inspired by it. #handstitching #slowstitching #handembroidery

Not to flood y'all with links to my blog, but I just posted a new piece: A Beginner's Guide to Communing with Nature, for anyone who's new to the idea of hanging out with, and communicating with, other-than-human friends: https://pnwmichelle.com/2025/01/26/a-beginners-guide-to-communing-with-nature-2/

My fellow witchy plant nerds: I'm feeling the need for some positive community engagement and more adventures with plants and trees. So I think I'm going to revisit my Plant Spirit Ally Challenge over the course of a year, starting on the spring equinox. I attempted to do this a few years back, made a strong start, and then my house fell apart and my wife had medical issues and I dropped the ball. SO I want to pick back up with my beloved western red cedar. I would love it if some of you would join me in a slow-paced, potentially asynchronous project of getting to know one plant, tree, shrub, moss, or fungus intimately over however many weeks or months you need. Read all about the challenge, and if you're interested you can download the free guide and see if you want to join in. https://pnwmichelle.com/psac/

Goodness it's been a minute since I looked at Mastodon. But I'm back AND I have a short story to share with you all. "They Walk Among Us" is full of Gods and crows and strangeness, some of my favorite topics. https://pnwmichelle.com/2025/01/21/they-walk-among-us/ #shortstories #writing #shortfiction

Took a lovely trip to the coast last week. I've almost recovered from all the relaxing. Another couple of days and I should be back to normal. 😆 (edited to add the alt text that I initially forgot.)

I met the most beautiful friend on my walk today. I know basically nothing about mushrooms except that I like looking at them more than I like eating them. #mushroom #fungi

I’m enjoying taking my time on this delightful cross stitch of Baba Yaga’s house by The Witchy Stitcher. It’s nice to just follow a pattern sometimes!

We spend a lot of time worrying about getting our religion right, but the longer I know my Gods and listen and learn, the more convinced I am that if we love Them, we'll get it right. Or if we make a mistake, we'll learn and move on. I think everything comes down to relationships and love in the end. #polytheism #polytheist

I would love recommendations for your favorite ghost stories. My favorite reads are eerie and emotional, if that helps. Suggestions? (short stories or novels are both acceptable.)

This week’s #slowstitchwithk3n prompt was about reverse appliqué. Basically you stitch through three layers of fabric and then cut out the shape! Talk about extreme crafting. Thrilling and nerve wracking.

Current ongoing WIP: a hanging for my shrine to The Mórrígan. I'll be adding more fabric and more stitching but I'm happy with how it looks so far. #handstitching #devotionalart #polytheist #polytheism

Finally all caught up on the weekly stitch journal prompts. This prompt from a couple of weeks ago was inspired by the incredible work of fiber artist Judith Hill, specifically her mammoth "Not to Know but to Go On". I took the prompt and ran with it, going for vertical placement of my couched pieces, leaving frayed fabric ends and long tails of embroidery floss at the "roots" of an abstract forest. As it came together I saw wild fire season in the colors and textures. Due to the way the piece is worked from both sides at once, it's fully reversible, with sides that contrast but complement each other. I have to say this is one of my most favorite pieces of the year. #slowstitchwithk3n #handembroidery

Still catching up on my stitch journal, I have lost track of which week is which, but this prompt was "Shisha and Kutch inspired embroidery". Two new stitches for me this time: the stitching that holds the little copper disc in place, and the ladder chain stitch - which I found SUPER challenging! I got really carried away with the stitching and the bling but I had so much fun. #slowstitchwithk3n #handembroidery

I have a present for all you paper crafters and junk journalers out there. I designed these Autumn Corvid pages for my own junk journals and decided to share them with you all on my Ko-fi page: pay what you want, because that's how I roll. All created using vintage images from the Biodiversity Heritage Library and Wikimedia Commons, with backgrounds from Pixabay. I'm sharing four images here, but there are ten in the set. You can view them all in my shop. https://ko-fi.com/s/ca67df348d (edited because I forgot the link at first).

A few days ago the post surgery fog finally lifted enough for me to return to my stitching. I've finished this piece: the prompt had to do with folding cloth, and at one point in the video Katryn mentioned "the folds of the land" and my mind jumped to the ground in my front yard at this time of year, and the contrast between green, soft moss in the shade, and hard baked clay soil, dried grasses, and scattered seeds in the sunnier areas. I have no idea how many hours I spent on my fake moss but I have no regrets. #slowstitchwithk3n #slowstitching #mosstodon (sort of)
