This is basically a black metal homage to the Herzog masterpiece, but the names have all changed since you hung around. And not in a good way. Every woman and girl dies a horrible death, and even the most cowardly and half-dead-inside bros live. Childhood sexual assault is sexualised in the film and I guess hating women is so normal that this is just seen as part of the genre. It makes Stoker’s original feel feminist by comparison.

Unstan chambered cairn for #TombTuesday. This cairn has a skylight and a ceiling added in the 20th century. The graffiti, some dating from the 19th century, includes runic carvings that initially appear to be Norse but aren’t. #neolithic #archaeology #orkney #ModernAntiquarian #Megalithic #tomb #HollowHill

I am obsessed with these seaweed pictures made by Eliza A. Jordson in the 19th Century. https://publicdomainreview.org/collection/album-of-seaweed-pictures-1848/

Delaney's"...distinctive images…can show us how an eighteenth-century woman might see the sexual body."

Fascinating take on the dark, intimate floral collages of Mary Delaney who began her artistic vocation in her 70s.

@wendypalmer @bsky.brid.gy Thanks, Wendy-- so basically using this I could cross post to Bluesky? I don't necessarily want my timelines to merge, but cross posting would be useful!

Can someone #help me with the language here-- when I click on "create a starter pack" at Fedidevs, it says "Write permissions will be requested to be able to follow accounts on your behalf." What does this mean? I am not a developer---I persist by asking for help, but I'm often frustrated by the lack of clarity for n00bs on this platform, even though I've been using Mastodon for many years! I'm trying to get my peers to undertake #MastonMigration but often I'm confused!

Has anyone used https://fedidevs.com/starter-packs/ to create a Mastodon Starter Pack for specific subjects to help new people find accounts? It's a great idea. I'm thinking about creating some, but don't want to step on any toes--they would be more like personally curated lists rather than official lists on a subject. #StarterPacks #Fediverse #MastodonMigration

Does anyone have experience using a #Kobo device with #BorrowBox for reading ebooks. I have looked around on the web and it seems you need an Adobe ID (really just hate adobe) and the process seems just...arcane. What am I missing? Is Kobo incompatible? Do you really have to use Adobe software with a login? Trying to find alternatives to Kindle. #Bookstodon #library #Librarians #ThingsOnlyLibrariansKnow #Help #Amazon

[#]SwatchWednesday #FountainPens #InkSwatch this is Salted Caramel from the #Inkvent 2024 calendar. Swatch with a glass dip pen & zebra G nib dip pen & brush. This is a rival for Edel. Golden Beryl but is more ochre. It’s very dry but gorgeous. It has a synesthesia-vibe of writing with gilded, burnt sugar

Sadly this memorial is where the bins are kept and the mural is now vandalised. (This is actually a pattern—bins and vandalism—a theme I address in the book.)

It’s my book birthday! Ashes & Stones is two years old today. I’m holding it at the Waterstones in #Aberdeen—the closest bookshop to where I was living at the time. The other pic is me beside the Aberdeen memorial to women accused of #witchcraft in Aberdeen and activists in the shire—including women who opposed T#%*!’s annexation of land. Carrie Reichardt used ceramic tiles in a zine-like format. #Witches #WitchesOfMastodon #Scotland #Aberdeenshire #bookstodon #WritingCommunity

I don't know who posted this information turning off AI in Gmail, but thank you. It also gets rid of the ham-fisted tab sorting Gmail does, that I've hated for years. Cheers! 🥂 #gmail #NoAI #generativeAI #Hack

I’m going through photos I took while researching Ashes & Stones. One of the first ones—the intertidal grave of Lilias Adie. She was not executed but died while being held for interrogation. Her grave was later robbed by phrenologist Joseph Neil Paton, father of the #Scottish painter of fairies, Joseph Noel Paton. Wood from her coffin was used to make a walking stick for Andrew Carnegie. The people of Fife have called for a return of her missing remains. (X posted cause Pixelfed is misbehaving)

Fuyu-Syogun is much more blue than Herbin’s Cloud Grey on the right. A dusky denim blue with some shading and no sheen. Marley is on the left, a blue leaning grey.

[#]SwatchWednesday

Iroshizuku Fuyu-Syogun, ‘Old Man Winter’ #ink swatch with a Zebra G nib dip pen and brush on mnemosyne paper. Smaller swatches on card with a glass dip pen. This was part of a Ironshizuku set called ‘Morning Moon’. I had hoped it would be close to Herbin’s Cloud Grey—a colour I love but haven’t found the right #FountainPens for it—it seems very temperamental. Marley, from this year’s #Inkvent calendar is the strongest contender. When do the #inkvent fulls come out?
