my Yule altar for tonight. it's been so foggy and dark out this week, it's been really nice having the extra lamp lights.

tonight i'll be weaving a bit and also working on my paper projects. hopefully i'll eventually sleep better than i did last night. lol.

today i've been on the phone on hold for the past hour waiting for dhhs to free up a case worker to help me fix a verification issue with my SNAP recertification. (because there is 12 cents that they can't account for. 😒 this happens every year omggg.) i just got the notification letter today 12/26 and the deadline is 12/28. :blobrollingeyes:

in the same mail haul i also got a notification that my rent is going up $15 which is mildly annoying. lol.

on the good side, i also got my new 2025 calendar in the mail so that's nice.

anywhoo, i hope that today is going better for y'all! 🧡

happy solstice! it's the second day of yule in my practice. tonight i'm lighting my lamps and planting a few seeds that need a long time to mature.

these 3 cotton seeds are soaking in water on my altar for a few hours before they go in a bucket of dirt near my tomatoes. they look like teeny tiny pears! 😆

happy Mothers Night, heathens! to those who celebrate. heathenry is a modern religion and practice based in lived experience and this is how it looks for me.

tonight i am honoring my female ancestors, Frigga and the Nornir. i have been dedicated to my Sisters for 28.5 years now and this is one way i show my devotion to Them.

Mothers Night begins my Yule time of spinning and divination for 12 days and all year i'll be using this yarn for sacred weaving. i gather my equipment on the 19th and start spinning the evening of the 20th and continue until all of the wool is spun or it's the 31st.

Mothers Night itself is for my Sisters and tonight i'll be doing divination for the year as well as just enjoying Their company.

i'll also use this Yule time to plot and write stories and do a lot of journaling, planning and reflecting for the old and new year.

i've got some projects i'm excited about starting and some that i'm excited about finishing. (and some that are languishing, but that's ok! i'm slowly but surely dismantling the productivity urge i was indoctrinated with and embracing being slowly and deliberately devotional. 😅)

yesterday i noticed that a random cucurbit seed is also volunteering from my compost in the tomato bucket. 😆

i may or may not keep this one depending on what it ends up being, lol. yum melons! not so yum cross bred field squash. lol.

so back in august, i was cleaning my altar spaces and sprucing things up as you do, and i found a desiccated strawberry in an offering bowl from spring when i offered the first strawberries of the year.

well, my strawberry plants all died this summer and i've been a bit bummed. mostly because i enjoy growing them for jam and offerings.

but as i was sitting there looking at this little withered and dry berry, i got to thinking that maybe i could germinate the seeds?

so i soaked it for a few days and treated it like saving tomato seeds and then stuck the resulting clean seeds into some moist dirt in an old tupperware container that lost it's lid (lol), slapped a piece of old plastic wrap and a rubberband over the top and stuck it in the "experiments" section of my houseplants and kinda forgot about it.

well! in september there were tiny leaves!!

i now have potted them up twice now and they're enjoying my south facing window along with some volunteer grape tomatoes from my compost this winter.

maybe next spring i'll have a couple berries for offerings? 🧡 🍓

i finally finished my surprise jacket! 10 years is a long time for an unfinished object, lol.

the pattern is elizabeth zimmerman's adult surprise jacket and the yarn is spindle spun, processed and dyed by me over the past 10 years. ope!

it's heavy! and cozy and very very warm. good thing it's getting chilly out! 😆

i don't think i've talked about this project yet? it's an altar cloth made with 36 woven squares made with continuous strand weaving and seamed together before lightly felting. it should be about a meter square when finished.

i'm planning on embroidering it afterwards, but that is another project. 😅

i'm sloooooooowly working my way thru my backlog of unfinished objects.
