I couldn't work out why I had a large yellow and red bruise on the back of my hand.

I almost convinced myself I could remember hitting it on something.

Then I remembered that's where they put in the sleepy drugs last Friday!

My mountain bikes have 27.5" wheels which Norco is saying is appropriate for a 11yo!

I've got an old mountain bike with 26" wheels which is apparently appropriate for a 9yo!

What utter nonsense!

This size guide seems to imply that you stop growing at 14yo? or that you need to upsize to 29" wheels at that age?

Never believe bike industry sizing charts, particularly if you're not average height and shape.

Was subpoenaed for jury duty today.

I got up 2 hours earlier than normal, dressed in clothes I wouldn't normally wear to work, paid for public transport, went thru security, was issued down halls by a number of people, waited in a queue:

"Can you do a 24 week trial .... or you can be excused and probably get called again in a month or two when we'll likely have trials of a month or so. We normally do but not at the moment."

The subpoena did state a 24 month trial but apparently that's standard. I was hoping that I'd get something at least 2 weeks long but not nearly 6 months! (I'm currently on light duties at work which is more annoying than normal work)

The whole process where you have to attend court in person to be allowed to simply say no is rather annoying. I assume there is a good reason behind it but GRRRRRR.

I caught a SW1 train replacement bus from Sydenham that only went as far as Dulwich Hill (which only had 3 of us on it). For some reason it stopped near the old closed train station.

As I walked home approaching the normal SW1 bus stop the next bus from Sydenham got there before me.

I got my rib x-rayed last Wednesday and the technician could only find the fracture on 1 of 3 positions she shot and said it was healing.

I've been in zero pain for at least a week. I couldn't get to the Drs until this morning and I was expecting him to say I was OK to go back to normal duties at work. But he wants me to remain on light duties for another 2 weeks!

Not. Happy. Jan.

Lots of wind and a very brief shower of light rain on today's ride. I've lost a lot of fitness lately.

I slept in late this morning and had to get up to answer my phone: "Is that Sean Hawley?" in heavily accented, stilted English

Me (tersely): Who are you?

Them: "I'm ringing to check that you are OK after your procedure with Dr .... yesterday..."

The number of legitimate businesses/organisation that communicate like scammers drives me insane.

I've just woke up from my colonoscopy and endoscopy.

What a great nap! And now I get a sandwich and coffee in a comfy seat.

It makes up for the paranoia that I would shit my pants on public transport getting here.

I just noticed that the carpet near the sliding door onto the balcony is wet despite the door being closed during the storm. This has never happened before. There must have been pretty extreme winds blowing rain onto and under the door 2m deep into the balcony.

I spent most of the night at work in a windowless room so I missed most of the storm, apart from some of the thunder and flickering lights.

On the drive home though I got to dodge branches on minor streets and watch the light show. Lots of street lights were out and one set of traffic lights. I was surprised there wasn't more flooding.

This morning cycling was hot and sweaty. I went out too hard at the start as usual.

I've lost a lot of fitness lately so my heart rate was through the roof.

It been an hour since I got home and I'm still sweating.

My Dr doesn't want me to get a 2nd X-ray (to confirm that my broken rib has healed) for another couple of days. I'm kind of OK with that because a bad result would delay things further.

But I've cycled ~20km on each of the last 3 days without any pain or discomfort and I'm burning up leave when Id rather be at work.

Work has found some light duties work for me today. So that's at least 1 day of leave that won't be wasted.

My broken rib has been pretty pain free for a couple of days so I tested it out on the road bike today.

22km with no pain. But I've lost a fair bit of fitness over the last couple of months ... and put on some weight.

I finally got to use my new iGPSPORT BSC300 cycle computer and realised I needed to bump up the screen brightness and simplify the data pages so I can read them.

And my new $30 Van Rysel jersey from Decathlon was comfy.
