Do you need to establish a truly private and secure channel of communication with one or many people on your cellphone or computer, even when your communications might be under surveillance by isp providers and state actors? Something tells me that a lot of you might needs something like that in the future.
So let's say that you need to coordinate with a girl friend of yours to help her travel to get a medical intervention that isn't available to her in her home state. What do you do?

Briar is a free text messaging application. But what makes it different, and why is it secure?
1- Briar is a peer-to-peer application. There is no central server, nothing is ever uploaded to "the cloud". Remember: in the end, the cloud always ends up being nothing but someone else's computer. When you send a message on Briar it goes directly from the addresser's device to the addressee's device, and if the addressee is offline the application will keep recursively trying to send the message until the addressee logs back in.
2- Briar does not necessarily need the internet. If the addresser and the addressee(s) are at the same real-life location and the internet is shut down, Briar can still work through Wi-Fi or Bluetooth provided they are close enough. Cough(protests)!Cough!
3- Briar is entirely pseudonymous. You only need to provide a username and a password. Neither you nor the application have to be aware of your interlocutor's phone numbers and identity.
4- On the internet, messages are bounced through the TOR network before reaching the addressee's device. This makes it EXTREMELY hard (nothing is ever truly impossible) for an internet provider or a state entity to trace the message and connect the addresser and the addressee's IP addresses.
5- All messages are also encrypted end-to-end, making them unreadable even if the packets were to be intercepted on the network.
6- Briar is entirely open-source, meaning that the code is available to be audited at any time by anyone who wants to audit it and look for security breaches.
Briar is available on Google Play, but you can also install it from F-droid if you don't want Google to know that you have it installed on your phone. You can also install it directly from Briar's website from the .apk package.
What can it do?
Briar can send text instant messages, and you can also organize group chats and forums. It works on Android, Linux, Windows and MacOS. It can also work as an RSS client, and you can share articles with your contacts that way.
What can't it do?
Calls, voice messages, videos, files. It's pretty bare bones, and objectively it won't replace your usual instant messenger.
It does not work on IOS, yet.

I have a bad a priori on IA like many people do, but the other day I used ChatGPT for the first time in my life: I had to write an apology letter in spanish to my boss after making a mistake that cost the company a couple of hundred dollars. I have to admit it did a very good job. I think that might be the most valid use for IA: as a sincerity emulator.

Algerian war: the story of Jean-Marie Le Pen's nazi dagger.
On the morning of March 3, 1957, Mohamed Cherif Moulay, 12, discovered a dagger in the entrance hallway of the family home in the Casbah of Algiers. Hanging from a khaki-colored belt, the weapon lay in a dark corner. It was forgotten by the French paratroopers who had subjected his father to "the question" (the french army's euphemism for a torture seance) the night before. Ahmed Moulay, 42, was tortured with water and electricity, in front of his six children and his wife, before being finished off with a burst of machine gun fire. The tortured man had the corners of his mouth slashed with a knife. An army statement announced that he had been shot while trying to escape. When he found this dagger, Mohamed Cherif Moulay hid it in the cupboard of the electric meter in the entrance hall.
The paratroopers returned twice in the following days and ransacked the house. To no avail. The child remained silent. Rania Moulay went to the police station to file a complaint. She was told: "Your husband died during a settling of scores between fellaghas." When a white priest, Father Nicolas, learned of the incident, he became indignant and intervened. The police finally opened an investigation. "So that they would be forced to admit that it was not fellaghas but French soldiers who had killed my father, I gave them the khaki canvas belt, but not the dagger that I had detached from the belt and kept," recalls Mohamed Cherif Moulay, now 67 years old. The investigation would be a deadend.
The dagger ended up in the buffet in the Moulays' dining room. It would remain there until April 2003, when the special correspondent of Le Monde in Algiers managed to bring it back to France. This piece of evidence was be presented to the 17th chamber, during the defamation trial brought by Jean-Marie Le Pen against Le Monde, on May 15.
Made of hardened steel, 25 centimeters long and 2.5 centimeters wide, it is a knife of the type used by the Hitler Youth, manufactured by German cutlers from the Ruhr, according to the investigation conducted by the journalist Sorj Chalandon. The blade bears the name of J.A. Henckels, a manufacturer in Solingen. The handle, partly covered in black bakelite, is inlaid with a diamond whose crest fell off in the 1970s, after being handled by the Moulay children. On the scabbard of the dagger, one can read: J. M. Le Pen, 1er REP.

Ce qui est particulièrement dégueulasse dans la séquence de Macron à Mayotte c'est qu'il s'en va là-bas leur dire qu'ils sont des français mais avec un astérisque et une note en bas de page.
