“Everyone I know in public health and science more broadly is freaking out right now.”

Datasets are disappearing off of the CDC website (and we're hearing rumors that there will likely be more by the end of the day)

On Wed, RFK Jr told senators his campaign doesn't exist anymore.

The campaign sent out a fundraising email praising the HHS freeze during that hearing.

Yesterday, he told senators he'd raised "zero" dollars off the emails.

His campaign says it raised $500,000.

I'm hearing that most normal NSF grants are okay.

But for postdocs directly funded through the NSF, the portal remains frozen.

Rent, credit cards, bills—early-career scientists live paycheck to paycheck, & the federal freeze that arguably never was is still disrupting lives & research.

Did the #Trump administration mean to freeze #Medicaid? According to a new memo, no.

But are Medicaid programs having trouble accessing money? From what we know now: Yes.

Companies advertising "passive income" for hospitals that sell their patients' records are popping up as AI creates a demand for training data

Patients don't have to give permission or be informed about this. It's all legal, as long as the info is "de-identified" (which is a another story!)

A bioethicist compares it to the 1973 film "Soylent Green": Chopping up people and selling parts back to them in a different package

FDA bans red dye No. 3 in foods on the basis that it causes cancer at high exposure in rats.

But the agency notes that the mechanism that caused rat cancer isn't present in humans and claims that it's bad for humans "are not supported by the available scientific information."

I started writing about #AI at STAT two years ago, when we were all trying to figure out what the heck #ChatGPT meant for medicine (throwback below).

Before that, I got a PhD in chemistry, and before that, I was a kid who always asked "why?" (I am now an adult who asks "why?" too often)

This newsletter won't aggregate stories (though I'll be sharing plenty of links) but is designed to interpret and give you exclusive insight into what's going on in #health AI.

If you've been forced to pay attention to AI because of your job, or you simply exist in the healthcare system and don't know anything about AI but want to, this is for you.

A fantastic example of why AI models like ChatGPT, Claude, etc are just fancy autosuggest and aren't AGI or capable of actual reasoning like humans are:

They suck at NYT Connections
