Do you know who was the last president to get 59% or more of the popular vote? Nixon in 1972. A larger proportion of Americans believe that the system has been broken for decades than voted for any president in 52 years.
When such majorities believe something in a real democracy, things change.

The American people are not stupid, they know that #oligarchy has broken our political system. However, #oligarch owned #CorporateMedia has been very effective at distracting the people from this core problem. As you can see here, the difference between parties is not the main story, but #NYTimes can’t resist presenting the information along partisan lines.

When a #Democrat is #president, Republicans make a big deal about the debt ceiling and insist on spending cuts in return for raising it.
Now that they are about to take over the White House, Republicans are trying to raise the debt ceiling just because Il Douche asked them to.
The #GOP is not serious about governing this country. They have no principles.
Democrats should vote against this. Let them shut it all down and keep it closed until they figure out how to reopen it.

For most of 2024, I have been complaining, whining, ranting and raging over America’s hastening decline into #oligarchy. I have decried, satirized and agonized over how the #oligarchs seem to be prevailing in their frontal assault on #democracy.
One of the things that bothered me was that I wasn’t seeing prominent politicians talk about this aspect of the spreading disease in our body politic. I am so glad #Bernie #Sanders is taking this head on!

We don’t need a #House #EthicsCommittee report to know that Matt #Gaetz had sex with underage girls and paid them money. He bragged about this to his #Republican colleagues in #Congress. Imagine a third-world country that recently held an #election. The election was seen as free and fair, although the richest man in the country paid for and overtly campaigned for one candidate, and that candidate won. #POTUS decides to call the winner to congratulate him. On that call, the winner’s billionaire donor shows up uninvited, and starts talking to POTUS.

[#]TheDaily podcast from #NYTimes recently covered the problems with Elon the #oligarch and his capture of the federal government through #Trump. After explaining how many conflicts of interest are at play, the #Times reporter says at the very end "#oligarchs is too strong of a word."

When they lose, the #right refuses to believe that they lost. They have created an echo chamber that is impervious to the truth. At times of political loss, the person who comes up with the craziest conspiracy theory that tells that they actually won becomes famous and makes money. Even if the theory involves Hugo Chavez, Italian satellites or bamboo content in ballots. Their biggest influencers platform the craziest theories.

In the Trump era, conservatives have given up on the rule of law and fully adopted the fascist idea of might is right.
The left has its share of conspiracy theorists who are questioning the results, but they don't get air time on high-visibility platforms. Podcasters and influencers on the left don't platform the crazies. As wrenching as the last week has been, the left has come to terms with its defeat in this election. That is healthy.
