Signs of spring out there. I hope the usual February cold snap doesn't come and decimate everything. Even the hydrangea is producing leaves. It's far too early!

Difficult, as family, creative art group, and some friends are only there, but deactivated FB, deleted IG. Need to move Messenger conversations to emails, then it will be fully deleted. Grrrr at the vile rich tech bros.

Writing in markdown for a static Jekyll website with an automated build system...
Almost every day, I need to do a bundle update before I can 'serve' the website I'm writing for to see how it will look and to test links, etc. Occasionally, even re-install components (homebrew, ruby, etc) from scratch when they fall over in confusion over version numbers. Most annoyingly, XCode when Apple (regularly) forgets to include it in an update.
Web dev never used to be this overhead intensive.

Knocked flat by that sewing two days ago, the first full day back at work writing yesterday, and the storm that’s swinging over today. Would love work on projects, but vision, balance, shoulder and hands are not cooperating.
We did put up the next round of kimono as the dragons went to sleep (aka I supervised from the couch 😅 ) Post up over on Patreon.

I got a bit done, and ouch is my back paying for it now. Jelly roll quilts have a mind of their own. I deliberately spread out patterns and colours, but they kept congregating back together 😅
For future quilts, I’d make the strips shorter for more variety, and not use my partner’s old black shirts - the thinner, perhaps polyester fabric, and my general inability to sew in a straight line means nothing is even.
And maybe use a double even thinner black stripe - one either side of the coloured panel would mean I don’t need to cut and reposition, but just sew the two ends together until it naturally reaches the middle.

I just joined (paid for) my municipal library, as I got excited to see their online offerings now included a huge library of ebooks, audiobooks, trainings, including in English, and a huge library of classical music, as well as sheet music.
Um. Yeah. Nah.
There are 8 English audiobooks in one of their two online systems, 6 of which are for Germans learning English. There are few more in the other system, but only of pulp indie-author books (usually only sequels too) that they probably didn't have to pay much to license. Nothing with large authors, non-fiction, language courses for other languages, etc.
They list a huge library of books and ebooks, English and other languages, including heaps of weaving non-fiction references. My hopes were raised. But all with a toggle - please notify me if the library chooses to purchase and make it available in some unknown future.
The training section is 100% LinkedInLearning, but currently not accessible as they have moved systems.
The Naxos classical library is broken so you can't log in and listen to anything. I can't find any sheet music in the app I was directed to.
I won't be renewing.
It has reinforced the tendency in Germany where 'amazing features' are spruiked, with nothing behind.
Related - my local suburb's library closed in 2024 for renovations. The website is ambiguous about whether it will reopen, or is permanently closed (it says both).

Maybe Johnny is a rabbit in disguise?
This angora fluff is a challenge to spin, and has the same float-away negative weight fluffy properties as my cat’s white fur. Including the nose tickle.

Back to proper cooking, and working through the Recipe Tin Eats cookbook.
Italian beef rice … it’s ok.
I’d make multiple additions next time - sliced mushrooms, thyme and tomato paste, especially if you skip most of the salt, as I have to.
Also a can of chopped tomatoes instead of tomato puree (ingredients’ strength of flavour here in Germany can be wildly different to Australia). Substitute fresh for sundried tomatoes if not in tomato season - the Dutch greenhouse-grown ones have zero taste.
And finally, sliced green olives for serving.

Dragon kimono collection tour now up over on Patreon. Lurgy is still hanging in there, but I'm able to string a few words together, roughly!

Demon Lord 2099 is in-joke and trope-filled, but it knows it, flaunts it, and makes it relevant. And it really works. Excellently done.
Best anime of 2024 for me. Looking forward to the next season.

Still resting, another headachy blerghy lurgy day. Thank goodness grand designs published old episodes in full on YT.
And thank goodness for tea. Lots and lots of tea.

The discussion around the link between loneliness and ill health through consistent protein changes, as usual, has a nasty patient blaming flavour - “got to get people to realise that social contact is necessary for good physical health as well as mental health”.
No one seems to suggest that there might be a big component of exactly that social contact causing the stress, ill health and protein changes with the constant dismissive “treatments” and society’s overall mishandling of ill health symptoms.

I assume this is the name of the printing company on the lining and the artist’s stamp on the front - can a kanji-reading sleuth translate or track this down for me?

Found a store that had Nutrigrain! Both unwell enough that it was good for all three meals yesterday. Been a long long long time since I last did that.
Up for making chicken soup today though.

If your kid is sick, stay away from Christmas gatherings. Or at least tell the immune compromised relatives, so they can stay away.
“Wir sind die Eltern und arbeiten daran, schon inhalieren” doesn’t prevent infectiousness.
