• Mac mini already acts as a dedicated Plex/file server 24/7

• I love that it takes like no power to run, most NAS systems seem to take like 6x the power

Storage noob question: I want some dedicated local storage, do I really need to buy dedicated NAS hardware when I have an M1 Mac mini just sitting around? What's the benefit of having separate NAS hardware/OS versus just plugging in a big, multi-bay USB enclosure to the Mac mini?

I'm digging this setup so much more than a tripod right now

• Modified light stand for super fast/easy height adjustment (and lightweight)

• Cheap fluid head

• Run everything off a big USB-C battery with 3D printed cage, about 12 hours battery life

Somehow missed this monitor from CES: an ASUS 6K monitor, so the same resolution as the Pro Display XDR, but it only costs a bit more than what the XDR's stand costs. The XDR is still better, but high res monitors are finally entering the mainstream

What's the recommended way in a widget to check if protected data is available? UIApplication.isProtectedDataAvailable is bizarrely missing from widget contexts, surely we're not supposed to just "try to write to protected storage and see if it fails”?

Has anyone hit this bizarre behavior with app groups and Live Activities? Write to the shared app group in the init, and the Live Activity just silently dies forever, no error message. Any other directory and it works fine. Am I holding it wrong?
