Back home in Kyoto now, after 2 months in the US.

Last night I went to the Writers in Kyoto 新年会, where we talked about book publishing and generally hung out with the Kyoto English language literary community.

Sold some books, gave away some calendars, bought a book. 👍

Told people about famichiki.jp 😀

It’s at an Irish cafe so I had Shepard’s Pie :-)

ICYMI: Afterglow: Taken through the supports of the Manhattan Beach Pier, a family on the sand watches the afterglow reflect on the beach. During these extreme low tides, the beach becomes like a mirror.

Randen Garage・嵐電車庫: Some of the motley crew of streetcars used on the Keifuku Randen Line. I love the squiggly tracks to get the streetcars in and out of the garage.

Higanbana・彼岸花: It's October, the Sagano fields are being harvested and the smell of smoke is in the air. Farmers often plant Spider Lillies (Higanbana) at the edge of their fields and that's what I was able to photograph today.

Hikarie: Shibuya’s Hikarie tower at golden hour, with the Ginza Line subway station at left and the Shibuya Sky tower at right. Shot on Fujicolor Superia 400 film.

After almost 20 years of major construction in the Shibuya district, including changes to the multiple train lines that converge here, the end of development is nowhere in sight.

I’m at Hirosawa Pond in Kyoto, waiting for the lanterns (灯籠） and mountain bonfires (五山の送り火) to begin. We should be able to see the Torigata fire from here. Might rain before any of that happens, although we are not anywhere near the typhoon hitting Kanto.
