Because I keep wanting to make #FediHamFest happen, and something reminded me here's a want-to-buy ad:
Anyone looking to sell & ship the following bits of lab equipment?
Mostly:
[#]1: benchtop variable power supply, ideally up to 30V
But also:
2: basic function or signal generator
3: bench multi-meter (I forget to turn my handheld one off, and the 9V battery dies)
4: directional coupler(s) for HF/VHF/UHF
Happy to pay a reasonable used price, don't want to buy new if I can!

As I said, I'll post a recipe for every fedi meta post that I make. Disclaimer: not necessarily one that I've tried, but I'll note when it is.
On a theme of the week: DIY feta

The two instances I am on both seem to be struggling with keeping up with posts. I imagine there's a higher than usual bit of traffic going across the fediverse.
(Give your instance admins and mods a hug, or a donation, or whatever they are into.)

I used the filter design calculator at https://www.wa4dsy.net/filter/filterdesign.html to get a rough idea of the values. Designed for about a 100Mhz 3dB cutoff just based on getting an inductor value I had, and then finding close enough capacitors.
Finally used LTspice with the actual (well... labeled) values from the parts I had.
I was expecting a little more drop-off, and I don't know about the little bump around 30 Mhz, but I feel pretty good about the result.

Well I finally homebrewed something - a high pass filter, in the Manhattan style.
Not a substitute for an RF limiter, but may apply this on a receiver that has an antenna right under my HF antenna. Mostly it was a learning exercise.
I used two surface mount inductors from an assortment I bought a few weeks ago, as they were close to the right value, and the capacitors from my SK neighbor's parts collection.
A big step towards my long time goal of homebrewing some #HamRadio equipment!

Whoohoo, look what finally came in the mail!
($10 as a check! Not some unusable gift card)

Me posting this here should suggest that I have no intentions to apply for it.

radioqth.net shows the vanity call W7OM as "immediately available". I really don't like the "OM" moniker in ham radio, but that call is tempting.

Maybe it says something about ARRL's perspective on the hobby that their dream station is "a limited-edition IC-7760 HF/50 MHz transceiver and IC-PW2 amplifier"?

@Geojoek saw you pop up on Ham Alert. You're barely audible from my QTH, but there were two other stations ragchewing about 0.5kHz down.
Anyhow, I'll keep an eye out for you, but also makes me think that a directional antenna with a few dB of gain might make it possible to get you in a park from here.

Forgot to take a photo before slapping the bottom back on it, but I successfully repaired the hinge of my second-hand Thinkpad T14s by moving all of the components from an old lower body to a replacement!
This has got to be worth some nerd cred, right? And I get to keep my stickers too.

As a warning, about a third of my replies are likely to be shitposts to corrupt the next big LLM's training dataset.
And if I reply to a thread that's already a dozen replies deep, it's almost certainly a shitpost.

I am so glad mastodon has content warnings.
Seeing the label "very gross Roomba accident" in my feed this morning, opened one post of the thread, and noped on out of there.
