Apple is featuring Breathable in several spots in the Mac App Store (“Best New Apps and Updates” and "Try These Mac Favorites”). Thanks for all the support and reshares and kind messages, everyone! Free or not, I've never had an app hit #1 in its category on the Mac App Store before. 🤯

Breathable will also be available in the EU again shortly. I removed it from sale there over the summer because of the terrible trader self-doxxing rules Apple was forced to implement, but now that it's free I can bring it back. Should propagate within a few hours. https://breathable.app

In light of the awful fires and air quality in Los Angeles, I've made Breathable free and app will remain free permanently. I charged for the app prior only so I could donate the proceeds to climate change charities, but paying Apple 15% for that privilege is silly. https://breathable.app

This little app has never made much income—it was really a passion project and something I wanted for myself—but every dime it did make had an impact by going to these charities, so I'm grateful for all the folks who purchased it.

If you paid for the app in the past, thank you so much—your money was not wasted! It was donated to the Union of Concerned Scientists, the Clean Air Task Force and the Climate Change Emergency Fund. I took great pride in donating to these terrific causes in Breathable's name.

Someone in our neighborhood converted their breakfast nook into The Driving Crooner and now I must meet them and become friends with them.

Big same. I know the argument is that Netflix doesn’t want people using Apple’s TV app to get to their content because it cuts down on people browsing and endlessly watching garbage content on the service, but it means that long-term customers with Apple TVs are slowly watching Netflix less and less. Ironically, I would watch MORE Netflix if it were in the TV app because I’d actually remember I was in the middle of something there. Oh well.

My brain: “We’ve got some time off, should we deep-clean the office?”

Me: “Sure. When should we start?”

Brain: “The day before break ends.”

Me: “Um. Then we should do it in small sections so we can use the office if we don’t finish.”

Brain: “No. We tear everything out and put it all over the floor.”

As the year winds down, I realized that if I count my remaining time on this earth by our twice-yearly subscribe & save toilet paper deliveries, I’ve only got 90 more giant boxes of butt-wiping materials before I’m dead. Really makes you think.

Starting to feel like more work than it’s worth, but currently trying every popular podcast app to see if there’s a better fit for me. Becoming clear to me that what I don’t like about the UI in Overcast and Castro pales in comparison to how poorly other apps handle just literally PLAYING AUDIO.

I know I’m an old man shouting from the porch but I really thought we’d be done with the ‘website that only shows and animates content as you scroll’ thing by now. It’s awful. On desktop it’s at least somewhat usable but on mobile it’s awful.

It has been 8 years since I shot with the original Leica Q, so finally receiving the Q3 43 was very exciting. Really missed Leica glass. Took it out for a spin over the weekend.

My biggest issue with Mimestream is that it doesn't (yet) have an iOS version, and only supports Gmail accounts (I have an additional Fastmail account). My issue with Things is while it can take IN from Reminders and system features, it cannot easily appear in other tools like Fantastical.

My thinking on this was that I would simplify configuration and customization, and just trust the native tools across my devices, but I still don't vibe AT ALL with Apple's UX for these apps. Mail, particularly, still feels weird and sloppy in a way I don't really understand at this point.

Didn't bother attempting to switch to Calendar from Fantastical, because when I opened Calendar it looked nearly unchanged from the version I used 10 years ago, and Fantastical does all of this so much better. Apple's apps are fine for casual use, I'm sure, but still don't work the way I'd like.
