Just over twenty years ago, I thought that I was studying the architecture of Guarino Guarini so found my way to Torino, where I stayed at a Salesian residence at Piazza Rebaudengo. When I went to pay, the director said something like, "You are a student and looking after you is what our order is for. The only way you can pay us is by learning and making good use of what you learn."
Today's the feast of San Giovanni Bosco, who founded the Salesian Order. Non ho dimenticato, direttore.

Just been looking at replica dino fossils. And I suddenly wondered – when Clifford the big red dog goes for walks, who's carrying the poo bag?

We noticed at Woolworths yesterday that two of the checkout staff were wearing little cameras, hung around their necks, labeled "VIDEO AND AUDIO". What's going on?
It felt creepy, indeed deliberately inhospitable – as did all the half-shelved stock on the floors that even their own staff were tripping over.

It's one of those nights where I am feeling once again very negative towards Elsevier for their crappy yet ever so delightfully marketed Mendeley. They make such immense profits, yet don't care to get even the basic bibliographic tasks right.

I'm working on an article about crushing rocks into sand today, and finding it uninspiring. So my mind has drifted to wondering whether the new generation of AI will teach us to look at physical realities and to think about our own potential and what outcome would be good instead of settling for "The computer says it's not possible" or "Says right here that it's raining right outside."
Or, indeed, "The policy is that..."
No, probably not.

@mwt I'm planning to divide and repot those sundews soon. Seems very likely indeed that the flat-leafed one is Drosera capensis, which is deemed a pest plant, but the pest plant accord says to check Council publications, and Council doesn't mention it in any of the pest management plans. Plus I have a strong feeling that local dealers are selling it.
Anyway, I'd be happy to pot up both the binata and the possibly-capensis for you if you'd still like them.
