Am not in the least bit religious. A massive reason for my own lack of faith is having watched both of my children suffer from the pain of cancer. So it will come as no surprise that I am very suspicious of those who like to wave religion in our faces. Why for example do so many of our politicians make such a big play of their faith, making sure the cameras follow them?

Scotland is a colony. One of the final remnants of the British Empire. That same Empire which once ruled a quarter of the globe. The ruling classes are to this day steeped in the belief of the greatness and righteousness of an Empire, upon which the sun never set.

Asset stripping in the Empire generated huge wealth for these people.

Now think of Scotland. Our natural materials and wealth benefits the same ruling class. Why else do they hold Scotland so tightly?

The Doomsday Clock was created in 1947. It uses the imagery of apocalypse happening at Midnight and the countdown to Midnight conveys threats to humanity and the planet. The Doomsday Clock is set every year by the Bulletin’s Science and Security Board in consultation with its Board of Sponsors, which includes nine Nobel laureates.

We are at 89 seconds to Midnight. It is clear that our leaders couldn't give a damn.

On today's 80th anniversary since the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, I have started to ask myself if the dreadful actions of the Israeli state and their message that any criticism of the Israeli state is anti-semitic actually encourages belief in anti-semitism amongst those who take the Israeli government at face value and are unable to divide the Israeli state from the Jewish faith?
