@theadmin

I did notice the "Recommended Accounts to Follow" banner appear mid-stream on mobile earlier for the first time (ugh... don't really like it personally, but can get why upstream did it from a product perspective), and thought an update had been applied. But the version number looks the same still.

Was going to post the first 4 pics from the linked album directly here, but mastodon.nz has been up and down all morning, so am just linking for now.

Some snaps of the 3 RNZAF TEXAN's flying in formation doing a few circuits over Christchurch the other day on a presumed training sortie from Wanaka.

@theadmin The server seems to have been a bit up and down since last night. Are there upgrades going on, or is it just increased load from all the Pixelfed migrations going on in the wider Fediverse?

Just realised that it's been 1 year + 1 day since I got my current camera 😂

(For some reason, earlier tonight I was thinking I should check... turns out I missed it by a day already! 😜)

WTF? Latest reports are that both black boxes didn't have the final few minutes of data - probably corresponding to the same time that the transponder data stopped being received as per the publicly available flight tracking services.

Very suspicious...

Also makes it damn near impossible to know what was going through the minds of those pilots when they did the loop around and belly landing - incl. why they didn't put gear back down, etc.

😬

Indeed, the last time we went to Riccarton Bush a few months ago, there were SO MANY pigeons. Everywhere.

You'd turn a corner, and a pair or more would just be sitting there, unperturbed as you approached. Or, how you'd see flocks of them flying around overhead.

In any case, it's bad. And we're all doomed if any of the buggers catches bird flu.

At long last! I consider this to be the start of this orange (David Howard) dahlia's flowering season 😊

Is unexpecfedly a bit Halloween themed due to the dark leaves though

Damn... between rough seas (i.e. no ferries) and dual engine bird strikes [1], it sounds like 2025 doesn't want us going anywhere LOL 😜

Fortunately the best faring begonia was the big red one that turned out to have a massive flower!

Worst was the one smallest (yellow?), that had barely begun to flower.

Orange had lost its flower a metre away!

Oh no! GARDEN EMERGENCY!

The torrid strong winds have knocked over two of my glasshouse! One was only stopped from flying away by our fence!

Worse still, the big begonias have been depotted (I.e. soil tipped out, and plant + root ball spat out, skewered by shelving + poles), along with the really productive dahlia tipped over. And, it's gonna be chilly this week at night!

Oh, and replacement bellflower was looking completely parched / fopsied!

😭😭😭

I'll probably need to call that garage door guy back to have another look.

A few years ago, had to urgently call him in on the weekend after the door randomly fell off its tracks!

Managed to use the emergency release to gingerly roll it back down past the busted portion of track, but couldn't figure out how to get it to relocked again. And the track was still broken at that point!

Guy ended up having to bang the rails back into shape... maybe need some tweaks again now...

Recently the house has gained a few random quirks:

  1. Constant honking sounds in the wind last night (like the car horn sound when activating the "find my car" button)

  1. A meow like sound a few seconds after closing the garage

  1. Occasional loud "elephant trumpeting" groan as the garage door finally closes

  1. Garage door randomly "slides back down" just past the bend when opening it. (In those cases, the next press sends it back up, before the one after closes it for real)

And that is why, for as long as we have disingenuous and dangerous morons like David Shitmore anywhere near the handlebars of power, our country will continue to be in a screwed up death spiral! 🤬

Whee! Managed to find this old treasure from the garage! 😍

IIRC, I got this when going for a walk with my paternal grandma down to the corner store in HK back in 1993

It was one of those art-deco styled 1-2 story rounded corner stores - probably a dairy type convenience store thing, and cream coloured. They had lots of these kinds of little toys on those tall revolving tower thingies (like the ones they put postcards / sunglasses on)

Also saw the rest of my stash 🤩

Mwahahahaha!!! The weeds are finally getting the long delayed punishment I haven't been able to give them since... err... what should have usually been Labour Weekend!

That feels good ripping all those buggers out by the bucketful! 😁
