Katharine Hayhoe is always worth listening to. This brief article on the myth of neutrality of scientists is a good example of why I think so.

AAaaaannnd another thing: If the USA really doesn't need Canadian resources, it clearly doesn't need to take over the country.

We're not really dealing with the sharpest scalpel on the tray here.

Trump's USA has joined the other side: the fascist side. He is correct on one thing: the antifascist countries need to vastly increase their defence capabilities to protect themselves from the USA.

Trump the peacenik.

Most powerful nation on earth claims Canada is being mean to it, so it intends to take over that country.

The whiner that leads that most powerful nation negotiated and signed the trade agreement he feels is unfair to his country.

Dumber than a bag of hammers. You really couldn't invent this stuff.

Some jackass on Mastodon is posting hate messages against Tesla vehicles and the people who drive them, effectively doxxing them. Another advocates burning the vehicles. My own vehicle has been stoned. Reported, but ffs what the hell is the matter with these idiots. Are we now going to be attacking fossil fuel powered vehicles and their owners because they're supporting oil corporations? (DON'T even think of it, dolts.) Dead silence on that front.

Those calling for banning Teslas to retaliate against Elon's Nazi salute might want to consider how the existing stock should be disposed of.

Serious question.

Motorized off-roaders have hammered the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains in AB, Canada, turning the source of water for the semi-arid plains into networks of mudholes over large areas.

Seems that's not the only place, & they haven't restricted themselves to causing just ecological havoc. In Yorkshire, they're vandalizing historical resources — a prehistoric settlement dating back thousands of years. All in good fun, though...

[#]Hegseth is making it abundantly clear that he intends to do whatever he pleases, regardless of treaties the US has signed, even including the US Constitution, but that he will follow any order Donald Trump gives him, whether illegal or not. And the Republican Party now in full control has indicated before any hearing that Hegseth's appointment will be approved.

The rest of the world needs to recognize the US as a hostile fascist state & prepare to deal with it accordingly. #USPol #NATO

One of 2 AB environmental outrages in the news today.

Those interested in Dr Timoney's stunning work in this area could read his book on these matters:

Canada Tourism Statistics 2023 | GoWithGuide

https://gowithguide.com/blog/canada-tourism-statistics-2023-5289

Apropos of nothing in particular, “due to their geographical proximity and shared language, it probably doesn’t come as much of a surprise to learn that the majority of international tourists visiting Canada came from the United States. In fact, almost 70% of travelers to the country come from the US.”

Including 1 American terrorist, evidently.

A common objection to taking this to court is that, if it fails, SARA becomes effectively useless. But unless the prohibitions are validated in court, they are simply ignored, so SARA is useless anyway.

Litigate the issuance of the permits. If you lose, you are no worse off. If you win, SARA becomes the powerful tool the parliamentarians who passed it intended it to be.

This project can be stopped. The Species at Risk Act prohibits damaging any part of critical habitat, redds, or individuals of any listed species without a permit, including the 2 trout species affected here. Canada can issue permits to allow it, but not for the purpose of allowing coal mining. While a counterargument to this view exists, it must be tested in court. Ecojustice needs to take this on.
