Two #Vermont hotel voucher stories from my experiences at a Burlington area food shelf...
Governor says "We don’t believe they are out on the street". Big nope to that buddy. Some are for sure.

Yesterday was the #RepairCafe at @LabB in Burlington, #Vermont. Most of my repair time was spent on an old Makita miter saw that the owner found discarded. First, they did not know the blade fixing bolt is left-hand thread so it was now VERY tight. Removed by hitting a wrench with a hammer. But the power cord was in unsafe condition so we replaced it with one cut off a dead dehumidifier. I hadn't disassembled one of those before but they are easy to work on, and we blasted out a load of sawdust

Back at the @LabB #RepairCafe today. Fixed a zipper on a boot by adding a stop a little below the top of the damaged zipper. Assisted with teardown of some electric devices (cheap electric kettles are horrible). Glued and taped together a laptop that had been dropped by a child. Fixed a power cord on an electric heater. Fixed another heater by blasting dust out of it. Fixed a string trimmer that had wrapped up a piece of loose wire. And first time I have fixed a sewing machine with a hammer.

Now I have 35 bags of toys plus some odds and ends to give away. I meet kids at the food shelf every week and #poverty sucks for them. Their parents can't afford toys. I would have killed for these toys when I was a kid.

Then I sorted them further to create little bags containing a handful of toys that were mostly alike. Bags of cars, bags of action figures, bags of Star Wars figures. Glad I found C3PO's leg and Darth Vader's cape in there.

At first I thought I would repair some of the broken ones, but they are just plastic tat and there's really no point. I reassembled a few but mostly no. The worst were the Transformer toys which are just rubbish straight out of the factory. Most of the random broken bits went into the bin.

I started by sorting them into piles based on the type of toy - things with wheels, articulated action figures, other little action figures, etc.

While walking around the neighborhood, I saw that someone dropped a big bin of free toys on the curb. Not long ago I had a fun time giving away toys to kids at the food shelf in Shelburne #Vermont so I thought oh yeah, it is time for more toys at a food shelf

Apparently the best way for advertisers to not get sued by Elon Musk for cancelling their ad buy is to never advertise on Twitter in the first place. Easy win, right? #twitter
