Toot

Written by Paul Southworth on 2024-08-30 at 21:01

While walking around the neighborhood, I saw that someone dropped a big bin of free toys on the curb. Not long ago I had a fun time giving away toys to kids at the food shelf in Shelburne #Vermont so I thought oh yeah, it is time for more toys at a food shelf

I started by sorting them into piles based on the type of toy - things with wheels, articulated action figures, other little action figures, etc.

At first I thought I would repair some of the broken ones, but they are just plastic tat and there's really no point. I reassembled a few but mostly no. The worst were the Transformer toys which are just rubbish straight out of the factory. Most of the random broken bits went into the bin.

Then I sorted them further to create little bags containing a handful of toys that were mostly alike. Bags of cars, bags of action figures, bags of Star Wars figures. Glad I found C3PO's leg and Darth Vader's cape in there.

Now I have 35 bags of toys plus some odds and ends to give away. I meet kids at the food shelf every week and #poverty sucks for them. Their parents can't afford toys. I would have killed for these toys when I was a kid.
