Today’s #3GoodThings!

1. I realised JUST in time that my daughter was supposed to wear her gym outfit to preschool today instead of her normal clothes 😅 ギリギリセーフ

2. I was wildly productive, including going up into the loft to bring down some old baby toys from back when N was learning to stand/walk 🥹

3. when the kids and I went out to walk the dog together this afternoon, three different sets of old ladies stopped their doorway chats to call out “oh my, you have so many babies! ganbatte!” 😂

picture this: I’m in the bathroom brushing my teeth; my daughter is climbing onto my back. I hear a yell from the kitchen and go to see my husband, hands soapy wet from washing the dishes, trying to stop Baby S climbing out of his high chair by pushing the kid down with his foot. Baby Y is crying because he wants to be held. I, toothbrush shoved in mouth, 4-year-old still clinging to my back like an oversized koala, pick up Baby S and take him somewhere safe while Baby Y still screams. Chaos 😮‍💨

what a day, phew 😮‍💨 #3GoodThings before I fall unconscious:

1. no preschool for my daughter today meant that I could have a lie-in until 7am 😎

2. all the kids were as good as gold at the dermatologist’s office - and the fact that I went out with all three kids in the first place earned me a rare burst of high praise from my husband ✨

3. to make up for her friend cancelling coming over this afternoon (he had a post-vax fever, alas) my daughter and I had a junk food lunch AND bought doughnuts 😋

[#]3GoodThings for today! I’m already finding it easier to find things to be grateful for, or to reframe to be positive.

1. I had a really nice walk with the #dog this morning, a little later than usual so The Big Park was open 🐕

2. I’m not a very confident driver but want to improve, so I took the car out for a practice drive (with 初心者マーク🔰 stuck on lol) and successfully parked in 3 different places 😅

3. even though Baby S is teething HARD (tooth # 9 ‽) he’s doing REALLY well at standing up 🥹

I had a dream about my dad last night 🥲 we were driving through the country lanes where I grew up, with autumn leaves everywhere… and now I’m… not disruptively sad, but still a tiny bit glum that my husband + kids never got to meet him 💔🍂 (he died 16 years ago)

1. I got to attend lesson observation at my daughter’s preschool today and see how much fun she has with her friends 💕

2. comparison photos from a few months ago show that, despite being in England over the delicious season AND not having done anything to try to lose weight, my body is looking much fitter

3. I’ve been in a better place mentally this week, which means I enjoy playing with the kids more too (despite fingers in my eyes)

Gratitude time! #3GoodThings

1. I am soloing everything this evening as my husband is at a work nomikai and everything went SUPER smoothly with zero meltdowns ✨

2. not one but TWO emails I had been hoping/waiting for arrived this afternoon

3. I had a really good and validating conversation with a friend this evening which made me feel a great sense of solidarity 🩷

bonus 4. I took all the kids to the park while walking the dog this evening and my daughter played on the swings

When I was pregnant with my daughter, during the very early days of the pandemic, I would get so anxious about the virus and people’s clear indifference to it. At some point, my hearing started to go weird: things would be simultaneously muffled and way too loud. The smallest noise hurt my ears, and would make me wince. It came and went, but I couldn’t figure out why. I asked my doctor about it, if it was a known Pregnancy Thing, and he said nope, not pregnancy related, that’s stress.

Anyway, after I gave birth it stopped happening as much… until this year 🫠 Actually from early December onwards, I’ve had this same issue - not every day, but incredibly frequently 😶 Everything being too loud and making you wince when you have a 4-year-old and two 10-month-old babies is distinctly less than ideal. I wonder if it really is stress? I don’t really have time to go find a doctor and find out right now…

i love my ENT 🥹 I have no idea if it’s legal or not, but he’s always like, getting everyone to the clinic when you have lots of children is really hard so I will prescribe medicine for your husband too, even though he’s not here!

cut to me leaving the pharmacy with what technically amounts to six months’ worth of hayfever meds

i’m literally so fucking powerful

managed to get the everyone fed (milk AND solids), start the laundry and leave the house with the twins less than 45 minutes after my daughter’s bus took her to preschool

i still had some Walkers mini mince pies left over in the cupboard so thought i’d snack on one before my daughter got home from preschool… but after the absolutely delicious ones we had in the UK they’re so depressingly mid i regret even opening the box 😭
