Rosey Bean visited her first beach yesterday!
It was only a little one on an estuary - Thurstaton on the Wirral - but it was a good intro to sand & waves.
For the first half of the walk, she was more interested in other dogs/people, but on the way back, she realised things on the beach smell GREAT. Her favourite were the round white whelk egg cases but she taste tested lots of sea weed too.
Can't wait to take her to somewhere with proper waves and tide pools etc.

I really should know better than to try to take pics of the moon with my phone (especially when the dog is yanking me around because everything smells great) but I like the branches so much that I think it works anyway...?

I didn't really mind being snowed in 8 days (beautiful local walks & the dog loved it) but boy, it's nice to be able to go out again!
We bobbed over to Scammonden reservoir for a short walk this morning. It won't be long before Rosey Bean can walk around the whole thing (it's about 5km) and not long after that before she can walk there from home too (10km including the loop around) - though I'm sure the way she potters, she'll do double that. We can't wait!

Soup 4. Last night, we needed a quick dinner so I made a soup I lovingly call "wet pasta". It's whatever veg we have in (this time onion, leek, celery and canned beans) in a herby broth, with either orzo or macaroni, and sometimes with either chicken or pancetta. A flexible bowl of warm comfort.
Soup 5. One from the freezer - a portion of some ancient Celeriac and Potato, with wholegrain mustard. I have no idea what the recipe was as it was from Oct 2021 🤣 Still tasty though.

It's still rather snowy up here. I think today is the first day since Sunday that we've not had a top-up.
Our drive has been blocked since the weekend, and the road snowy, then super icy. We can get out on foot but aren't going further than dog walks. We went down a farm track yesterday where the snow was about a metre deep: it took us ages to walk it because we were laughing the whole way.

Hickory likes to join the pup and me for a walk a couple of times a week. She can be a bit much for him sometimes, but he puts up with her for a share of her treats.
It was snowing on our walk today - topping up the 30cm still on the fields. He left the snowball chasing to her but stayed close by, watching her antics.
Hickory is a wonderful cat.

When we went to bed last night, the snow looked to be melting but we woke up to find a fully fresh blanket this morning.
It's been melting again during the day, but there's still a good 30cm on the fields. Rosey, now an expert snowball catcher, loves chasing balls as they roll down the hills.

Rosey Bean was delighted this morning to find the snow has returned. We've got about 25-30cm on the fields with some deeper drifts (less on the paths thankfully). Enough to warrant bouncing springing 😄
She's enjoyed chasing snowballs but we've also used the opportunity to teach her how to catch small ones in her mouth. (Quicker iterations than with real balls). She also learned that if she bounces in snow at the top of the hill, little balls roll down - perfect for chasing!

Rosey Bean went on her first bus today! In hindsight, at 25mins each way, the journey was a bit long for her first but she was more relaxed on the return so we're confident she'll get better after a few more trips.
We took her into town and she met lots of friendly people. She was also brilliant in a cafe over lunch: as soon as I got out her blanket, she settled immediately.
