Rosey Bean visited her first beach yesterday!
It was only a little one on an estuary - Thurstaton on the Wirral - but it was a good intro to sand & waves.
For the first half of the walk, she was more interested in other dogs/people, but on the way back, she realised things on the beach smell GREAT. Her favourite were the round white whelk egg cases but she taste tested lots of sea weed too.
Can't wait to take her to somewhere with proper waves and tide pools etc.

@JohanDiederik aww I bet she had lots of fun too! Rosey was off lead for the first half but her recall was suffering in all the excitement so we popped her back on her lead.
Rosey is a English Springer Spaniel and 5.5 months old now - she's growing so quickly!

@louisa_ What a coincidence! Yes Ivy grows so quickly too, amazing. Friday at the vets she was 12.8 kg🤪 That day we were walking is a sort of parc near farmers fields and in the middle of a small grassland there is a round pond of about 15 meters in diameter. She is not afraid of water so…. in a second she was in it to her middle. At home I put her in the tub immediately. She felt great🥳🤣(photo is the day after)

@JohanDiederik awww Ivy! What a confident water baby! Rosey was cautious around water to start but we took her swimming (in a heated indoor pool...) a month ago to show her how it works, and now we can't keep her out of it - puddles, ponds, lakes, and now the sea...! We also had 30+cm of snow for 8 days earlier in the month and she loved that too.
Have you had Welsh springers before?

@louisa_ nice to hear that Rosey loves water so much now. We will try to train Ivy as well bcz we are sailors. We have an 36 ft sailing yacht and we use to sail the seas around us. Baltic last summer. We hope she can join us and not suffer from sea sickeness too much as that would be the end of us sailing to nice places in Europe. Ivy is our second dog. We had a Welsh Corgi before her but unfortually we lost him when he was 2.5 yo due to too many bite incidents. So 1st Springer

@JohanDiederik oh wow, Ivy will be a sea dog! How wonderful. Where did you go around the Baltic Sea? We went to southern Finland last year, and southern Sweden the year before - I love all the islands. I'd love to sail, but we're too far from the sea to do it easily: we do land-based touring instead (campervan/bikes).
Yes, we live in Yorkshire. Whereabouts did Ivy come from? Did you come all the way to get her?

@louisa_ 1/2. I’ll send you our trip later. We made a log on Polar Steps. 2 books with text and a lot of photos. Ivy is born in Darlington area. I don’t want to share te exact place out of respect to the privacy of the breeder. When she was 8 weeks old we went there to see her and chose one out of 3 pups. Went by ferry to New Castle. A few weeks later we went back, visited Scotland and after 9 days picked her up near Darlington and stayed in a cottage, named Ivy for 10 days, till

@louisa_ 2/2. she was 15 weeks. Earlier than that you are not allowed to pass the customs. Both times we had our own car with us. Because of the storms beginning of december we had to postpone for a few days.

@louisa_ adorable! how old is she?

@f4rr3r she's just under 6 months now. We've had adult rescue dogs before but she's our first puppy (we got her at 9wks) - it's been a steep learning curve for all of us! I've enjoyed her puppyhood, but I'm looking forward to having an adult dog again (not that springers ever really get over their puppy energy...). That said, I'll miss her "puppy play" socialisation sessions. There's previously been about 5 pups in each session but today there was about 15. It was amazing chaos 🤣

@louisa_ puppies are a challenge but so worth it, getting to see a dog’s personality form is a special thing. i’m not sure if 15 pups in one room is a dream or a nightmare 😂

@f4rr3r it's a dream when you only have to clean up after one but would be a nightmare if you were in charge of them all!
The first few weeks with her were hard (I was up multiple times a night with her and I just do not function without decent sleep) but we've crossed the pleasure/pain threshold now, and yes, it's lovely watching her develop & figure things out. Dogs are excellent, aren't they?
