My #Factorio #Fulgora base is chronically out of water. We can't put steam in barrels, and besides melting ice cubes, I don't really know how to add more water to Fulgora. My Fulgoran hauler is already accumulating ice cubes while travelling and exports a couple hundred ice cubes on every trip.

Any fellow Factorio players have other ideas I could implement?

I work with the #Scouts and we're heading to winter camp. Kids have chosen a Harry Potter-themed camp.

I'd like to record myself as the sorting hat, then transform my voice. Any suggestions on what I should do?

I'd like privacy (no ad-infested apps), and I'm in the Apple ecosystem, if that changes anything.

I'd like to change my voice pitch and timbre. Maybe a multi-modal "AI" would work? I'm technical and can probably do a lot of things.

My #Factorio #Gleba logistics network contents... notice how many pistols there are? Yup, that's how many times I died trying to get some pentapod eggs...

Oh boy, what a mistake! I was on #Gleba in #Factorio. I had finished setting up the production chain to make science: yumako mash -> nutrients -> pentapod eggs -> agricultural science.

I, unfortunately, forgot to put a limit to the number of pentapod eggs. When I looked, I had over 200 eggs in my chests. I was in the process of putting up turrets when the eggs hatched.

200 immature wrigglers hatched and overran my base. I'm almost starting from scratch.

Spoilage mechanic is a PITA...

[#]Sapling's GitHub integration is really nice, because I can edit the commit description and sl push and the PR description is updated to match the commit description. That's something I really, really like.

The jury's still out on whether I'm staying on Jujutsu or switching back to Sapling. I am giving Jujutsu another week or two of daily driver before making a final decision.

I seem to have found my footing with #Jujutsu, a new frontend for #Git.

The most important change is that my working copy is committed in the current change as soon as I run any Jujutsu command.

This means I can't have a file that's lying around while I move commit to commit. I have to split that file into its own commit, and make that commit an ancestor to any place that needs the file. It's an adjustment, sure.

I am also a user of #Sapling. I enjoy Sapling direct GitHub integration.

Hey @bensheldon, I searched "" on DuckDuckGo (https://duckduckgo.com/?q=ben+sheldon+activerecord+connection+pool+size&ia=web) and the returned URL is https://island94.org/2024/9/secret-to-rails-database-connection-pool-size

That returned a 404, and with your recent migration to #Parklife, this may indicate a problem with your migration.

The actual URL is https://island94.org/2024/09/secret-to-rails-database-connection-pool-size

Notice the extra "0" on the month.

Cheers!

Just finished Assistant to the Vilain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer. That was a BLAST! Luckily, there are two other books in the series. I’m visiting the library to get my hands on them tomorrow!

Evie, a young girl, needs money to pay for her sister’s education and her father’s medication. She meets the Vilain in the forest, and is immediately taken by his looks. He offers her a job, as his assistant.

From that simple offer, a deluge of comedic qui pro quos ensues.

Highly recommended!

[#]Jujutsu is a git-compatible #cli for working with repositories. It enables a few different workflows. I have been using #Sapling for a while now and am generally happy with it.

I enjoyed the "book", but there are missing chapters! Last commit was a month ago. Hopefully, Steve will work on the book again this year.

I have over 3000 hours in Factorio. This isn't the first time I make this mistake. I know other people have made the same mistake. When you "buffer" on belts, the length of the belt is the size of your buffer, so easy peasy. When you want to buffer more, well, you have to be careful.

I buffered the output of Utility and Production science in #Factorio, but I failed to put a limit. I now have 9500 yellow science packs as well as 7000 purple ones.

I'm good to research quite a few techs with that much saved up science!

It wasn't a great fight... but, 12 pistols later, I finally conquered this bit of territory.

[#]Fulgora in #Factorio has no enemies, but scrap recycling is difficult... you get so much stuff out of recycling, then you have to recycle that stuff too, otherwise all your storage fills up.

Holmium being just 1% chance is really a bummer, and recycling is the only reliable and automated way to get any Holmium.

Seems like I'll need to up my game and bring more elevated rail to Fulgora to tackle this problem.

In the end, I was a bit underwhelmed. The fight barely lasted 10 seconds, and 10 rocket turrets would have been sufficient. 10 destroyer capsules (50 follower bots) and constant spamming of poison capsules and a few rockets were all it took.

Anyway, demolishers are a major threat, unless you have the right equipment.

Enjoy your fights!

I was finally able to kill my first #Factorio #SpaceAge #Demolisher! I unloaded 1000 explosives and 100 rocket turrets on #Vulcanus. We don't have access to sulfur on Vulcanus to craft explosives, hence why I brought some.

Once on Vulcanus, I built plain rockets and made a blueprint with a rocket turret that has 10 rockets in it. I spammed 100 of them. Then, I attacked a Demolisher with poison and destroyer capsules.

The fight ended in 10s. Yay!

I'm trying to puzzle out how to kill #Factorio #SpaceAge demolishers. I have a small one (30,000 hit points... small?!?, 2400 HP regenerated, per SECOND?) north of my base, and I want the tungsten ore that's there.

I was looking at the atomic bomb. I thought maybe that would be enough. But, surprise, it's too heavy for the rocket!

I'm not looking for ready-made answers. I'm documenting my journey.

Rocket turrets are gated behind #Gleba, so that's my next stop.

2nd attempt at leaving for #Vulcanus in #Factorio #SpaceAge. This time around, I was much better prepared. Unfortunately, chests of any kind cannot be put on the space platform, so I couldn't accumulate ammo. One of my turrets ran out before I got to Vulcanus.

Once I landed there, I was able to dropship everything I had brought: electric miners, construction bots, logistics bots, solar panels, accumulators, etc.

I should be able to get a nice foothold on that very intimidating planet!

Following my first #Factorio #SpaceAge travel to the next planet, I discovered (re-discovered?) that one must absolutely, crucially, have defense mechanisms in place, otherwise larger asteroids WILL impact your space platform and damage / destroy it. This was previously discussed in https://factorio.com/blog/post/fff-381, but I had forgotten it!

Be warned: if the platform's core is destroyed, and you are ON the platform, you die with it...

I reloaded to continue my game.
