It will be interesting to see what's left of "Broader Impacts" after this. Certainly things like BPC (Broadening Participation in Computing) in NSF-CISE will probably be doing a lot of self reflection on what can stay and what must go.

Seminar conventions I hate:

• Long introductions of speakers, particularly when they include a lot of irrelevant information about academic pedigree and random awards accumulated. Also hate when titles are read.
• When questions start with insincere platutudes like "Great talk."

I didn't realize this was the reason for the cancelled NIH review panels! Seems to suggest that universities receiving federal funds may have to get rid of their DEI programs. (??!!)

I noticed that all referencess to the "Nelson memo" from Biden #WhiteHouse #OSTP ("Ensuring Free, Immediate, and Equitable Access to Federally Funded Research") have been removed from Trump administration's web page, but I don't see it in the list of rescissions below (?!). Has the impending requirement for all open-access publishing starting in 2026 been removed?
