We know there's going to be an absolute whirlwind of statements, stories, etc. that get rolled out (we have prior art!) and re-calibrating my relationship with news and news media feels like something I actually have a say in and can control. It feels like one of the ways in which I can be a little more resilient against exhaustion.

Shields up, my friends. (4/4 I guess!)

I think I sometimes feel that staying incredibly up-to-date with every piece of news about a topic will make me feel well-informed and lead to some kind of sense of fulfillment (?), but I just don’t know think that’s actually true. The podcast episode suggests asking yourself: “what is your purpose in following this topic?” To me, that’s such a refreshing way to pause, think, and take a moment to understand what I want out of a thing instead of trying to find the bottom of the thing. (3/?)

I think this is worth a listen if you’re also trying to figure out how to navigate, understand, and interact with overwhelming and exhausting media for the next…however long times. (2/?)

News media is already exhausting and it's not even Monday yet. While thinking about how I can re-calibrate the ways in which I interact with news and news-adjacent media, this morning I revisited this August 2024 episode of Search Engine where Ezra Klein was interviewed about whether there was a sane way to follow the 2024 US presidential election: https://www.searchengine.show/listen/search-engine-1/is-there-a-sane-way-to-follow-this-election (1/?)

It's been an interesting week: the show The Mayor of Kingstown has been filming outside of my house the past few days. I have not yet seen Jeremy Renner, though.

We're just two days back from the holiday break at work, and my team's doing a deep Slack discussion on using the element. That's the kind of energy I love bringing into a new year!

@cory 👀 https://polyvinylrecords.com/product/zebra_t_shirt - I think this might be to celebrate the 30th anniversary of You’d Prefer an Astronaut. I pre-ordered it!

Continuing my tradition of seeing Senator Fetterman at my local Costco every time I go on a Sunday morning. At least constituents know where to find him?

Went for my annual physical exam this morning. If this isn't something you already do, I very much encourage folks around my age (men especially) to start doing this annually. Not only can it catch things that might be wrong now, but you also build data that you can look at over time to identify trends (cholesterol climbing, blood sugar, etc). Dudes my age need to get on this if you aren't already doing this! We need you here, healthy.

Logging off of the parts of the Internet where I can actually do that. Likely slow to respond for a bit. Take care of yourselves and one another, friends.

As a life-long yinzer, I can confirm that Pittsburghers love talking about and hearing about Pittsburgh. I am, however, quite exhausted and ready for the spotlight to be turned down a bit.

Managed to dodge COVID for 4.5 years and tested positive this morning after two days of negatives with cold and flu-like symptoms. I had just gotten my booster late last week too! 😭

Folks who regularly work with GitHub Actions: how do you test your changes in a safe way? Do you set up separate a separate repo to test there first before actually starting to use workflows in your main repo? Am I missing out on some killer workflow or tools that help with this?
