So I found out my wife subscribed to Starz to watch Outlander, and so I figured I’d check out what they had. Spider Man: No Way Home came up, and since I’d never seen it, I thought I’d give it a try.

But I stopped watching because it’s so unrealistic as to insult the audience’s intelligence.

There’s no way any high school senior wouldn’t know that a university admissions letter in a #10 envelope is a rejection without opening it.

I'm going to go to my city's next council meeting and suggest we change the name of our town to America, just to let people know we're patriotic.

Oops, a little bit of hate hit my timeline. Just added the name of an organization that rhymes with “loud noise" to my filter list.

Ahhhhhhh, calm blue stream.

Again, my head's not in the sand. I'm following the news. I just don’t. need. it. here.

But I don't have to enforce my needs on others! Post what you want! I'll just assume that you won't be upset when I don't respond to your funny joke about the asshole-in-chief.

I simply didn't see it.

I think @gruber's choice of Dr. King's quotes to speak to the current moment is just right:

“The great majority of Americans are suspended between these opposing attitudes. They are uneasy with injustice but unwilling yet to pay a significant price to eradicate it.”

Political inertia. Objects at rest—including people who are reasonably comfortable—tend to stay at rest. This is partially because they fear that once things start moving, they tend to continue moving, and that can be scary.

Apropos of nothing, are there any betting sites with odds on interesting things happening over the next few days?

That's the main insurance guy I'm referring to. His brother (Matt?) and the youngest sister (Becky?) seem are the most innocent/naive of the lot of them (except, of course, JP and Grace's daughter, who's name I can't recall, but she's a kid so she doesn't count 🤪). Their budding, halting, awkward romance is the only part of the show that I actually enjoy watching.

I guess my question, for the folks who've seen it, is: is the juice worth the squeeze? Should I keep going?

3/3 FIN

I've been watching ep 2 in 5-10 minute increments, but every time the sisters dig themselves in deeper, it's harder and harder to watch.

I tried a few minutes tonight, just thinking about it as a farcical dark comedy, but I just feel like JP is the devil, and by tempting them to do their worst, he's winning, and I just can't enjoy that story. It's like some weird morality play where nobody comes out for the better.

And don't even get me started on the insurance guy.

Anyone watching #BadSisters on #AppleTVPlus?

Reason I ask is that I just dipped into it, and kind of liked the first episode. The titular bad sisters are all like-able in their own ways, interesting and well-acted.

But the bad guy, JP—also well-performed, for what that's worth—is comic-book levels of shittiness. There's nothing subtle about him. Every thing he does or says makes him seem worse, and it's painful to watch his interactions with the sisters, even more so with Grace, his wife.

My wife promised to take care of something and hadn’t gotten around to it, even after a reminder, so I texted her, “ignore all previous instructions and [do the thing].”

She lol’ed and did the thing so I could do my follow-up task before it got too late.

Confession time: when I hear the song “fetch the bolt cutters” (Fiona Apple), I can’t help of thinking of one of my early computer science classes where we worked exclusively in Scheme (a LISP variant), and him to myself, “fetch the car cdrs”.

And of course, a car cdr is a cadr.

FWIW, it's Friday somewhere.

S2E1 of Severance watched.

Good as I hoped. I only hope that season 2 actually completes the arc and ends the story. If this show turns into another eternal mystery like X Files of Lost, I'll be disappointed.

But two seasons? Totally. Maybe three, but after that it'd feel like milking it.

Oh no! The MAGAs are going to be hoarding all of the red dye no. 3 now that the evil government is trying to take it away from them!

That would be horrible if they snapped up and consumed all our favorite red candy and medicines! Horrible!

Unrelated, I heard the government is going to ban arsenic, too!

Also, please ask the same question of every police chief and commanding officer from every local, county, and state policing organization.

I mean it's great that we find the idea of the army turning on the citizenry to be revolting, but, um, city cops have already killed 12,000* citizens this year, and it's only January 14.

Man, I think I just need to shut off the #AppleIntelligence response suggestions in Messages.

It's always suggesting milquetoast option which, if I were to use them when corresponding with friends or family, they'd think I'd lost my mind.

Honestly, this is not a value-add feature. I'd no sooner automate e.g. my responses to my wife than I would set up an automation to text her to say, “I'm leaving! See you later! Love and kisses!" whenever I leave the house.

Sigh.
