I've used Duck Duck Go as search engine for a while now and it was good - bar the times when a banner popped up to 'try DDG Search' which I thought I used already, so checking it got me to the Play Store to download their app, which I didn't want.
Going back into my browser then threw me into a loop of instantly being taken back to the PlayStore.
It took effort to overcome it and I rewarded DDG by replacing it with
QWANT search. It seemed slower at first, but fine now.
Opinions?

I heard that the second half of January is going to be more like summer here in Otepoti.
Eager to verify this i did a silly thing -
I checked the weather forecast for next week...
Not a single day that reaches 20°C.
Looks like I'll have to wait longer for it.

that button pressed told me that unless I paid for it on an apple device I wasn't going to see it.
That's not a good advert but reminded me of the:
'You have an update'
Windows user: 'oh no!'
Apple user: 'How much?'
Android user: 'Yay!'
So Apple, I'm not getting a subscription where then I pay for most good movies (even older ones) on top of it.
I'm watching a lot of Korean content at the moment and in comparison what came out of Hollywood was meh, a lot of very old actors and few good plots.

I succumbed and tried the free weekend of Apple+ streaming channel over the weekend.
Results: first hurdles encountered on getting a necessary Apple ID because, I guess, I didn't use the 'right' browser - at first it tried to force a membership on my and after 2,3 more tries I got my free weekend.
Homepage is well done, so are play, pause, forward, etc functions.
I was told to enjoy free everything -
The first two movies I wanted to see had instead of a play button a
'how to watch' button...

On a side note:
There's no NZ in AUKUS,
let's keep it that way.

I strongly agree with the wrongness of the Holocaust as with all other atrocities committed to all living beings.
What bothers me is that it seems to me that these posts turn up regularly at all times when the designated international remembrance day is actually 27 January.
I fear that at times they're used as a medium to distract from the ongoings of an actual genocide atm and anyone even slightly questioning this is designated anti-semitic or silenced in another way.
I find that disturbing.

Interesting start of day;
Got an email from Mastodon to take down a simple question asked at a post about a child Holocaust victim.
The post was titled in memory of a young girl being deported and then killed in Auschwitz.
Underneath the post was a picture of a young girl from that time (I think it was a generic picture, not the actual person).
My question was, 'why then is this happening now to Palestinian children?'
Evidently I was not to compare one atrocity with another.

Something I find really annoying -
You sign a petition or support a cause you believe in and:
'You're almost done'...
Argh, no, I'm done.

This is sorely needed in Aotearoa as well.
(It's an international trend to reign in unethical companies...
what are we waiting for?).

Something I saw today I can't make sense of: the ACC within one year (last one to this) went from a 911 mio $ profit
to a 7.2 billion $ deficit.
Did all the employees go gambling, I mean... how?

Here's an article on so-called AI -
even more depressing when you imagine all the things that are really needed that could've been done with that money.

I celebrated Matariki over the long weekend by going on a bike ride I wanted to do for a while now.
From Lorenz to lake Waihola (the other way round and back).

Thanks to all the people boosting my search yesterday (Tue,25June),
turned out it was actually altered guitar played by Tom Kerstens,
the piece was 'The Third Fire ' by NZ
born composer John Metcalf.
Here's the whole piece ( on this site the next piece is by another one of my favourite guitar players, Michael Hedges from the good old days of Windham Hill music.
